30 years of the CTBT

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), a landmark agreement that bans nuclear weapon test explosions worldwide.

As Norway's National Data Centre for the CTBT, NORSAR contributes to the global monitoring system and to the research that helps verify compliance with the Treaty.

NORSAR presented research at ESC2026 in Istanbul

NORSAR participated in the ESC2026 meeting in Istanbul, where our researchers presented on Antarctic seismology at Troll, magnitude scales in Norway, geothermally induced earthquakes in California, and the SAFE-C project.

New publication from NORSAR

NORSAR researchers have published “NORFOX: An Experimental Fibre-Optic DAS Array for Seismo-Acoustic Monitoring in Norway,” presenting a unique fibre-optic DAS test facility for seismic and acoustic monitoring in Norway.

NORSAR-stiftelsen styrker styret med to nye medlemmer og utnevner Ole Harbitz til styreleder, noe som styrker ekspertisen innen forskningsledelse, nasjonal beredskap, forsvarsteknologi og internasjonal sikkerhet.

Camilla Stoltenberg, administrerende direktør i NORCE, og Jens G. Mattsson, generaldirektør for FOI, det svenske forsvarsforskningsbyrået, har sluttet seg til NORSARs styre. Ole Harbitz, tidligere generaldirektør for Norsk Strålings- og Kjernekrafttilsyn (DSA), er utnevnt til styreleder.
