🪼 REV Ocean was proud to contribute to two inspiring sessions at Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow this week.

Our Science Director, Eva Ramirez-Llodra, helped chair a session bringing together experts to explore deep sea research opportunities in the context of the UN Ocean Decade.

Leighton Rolley also joined a career panel focused on alternative pathways outside academia — sharing insights with students and early-career scientists about building impactful ocean careers beyond traditional academic routes.

From shaping scientific dialogue to supporting the next generation of ocean professionals, it’s been great to be part of the OSM this week.. 🌊

🌊 At the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow, REV Ocean (Booth 160) and HUB Ocean (Booth 169) are side by side — and that’s no coincidence.

REV Ocean will be generating high-quality ocean data at sea, through missions focused on protection and restoration. Ocean helps unlock the power of that data — making it accessible, usable and impactful through the Ocean Data Platform.

If you’re at OSM, come by and see how we’re working together to accelerate solutions for a healthy ocean.

🌊 Today, the BBNJ Agreement enters into force — a historic milestone for the ocean.

The Agreement marks a turning point in how the international community works together to protect marine biodiversity and manage human activities in areas beyond national jurisdiction. It creates a new framework for science-based decision-making, cooperation, and accountability across the water column and the seafloor.

Protecting and restoring the ocean is REV Ocean's top priority, and our missions will closely align with the goals of the BBNJ Agreement.

Supporting the creation and effective management of marine protected areas beyond national jurisdiction will be one of our top priorities, alongside generating and sharing the science needed to inform policy and guide long-term stewardship.

🐠 A big day for the ocean — and an important moment for what comes next.

An international research team led by UiT The Arctic University of Norway has discovered the deepest known area in the world where methane seeps from the seabed.

The discovery shows that the area hosts rich chemosynthetic communities, dominated by tubeworms, snails, amphipods and other specialized fauna.

REV Ocean contributed to this important research by supplying our ROV Aurora and technical team to support seafloor sampling and videography. This work highlights the value of seabed observations and the essential role of advanced subsea vehicles in climate-relevant science.

Where Haute Couture Honors Ocean Conservation.

Inspired by the ocean, this fluid, sculptural gown was custom-designed for REV Ocean CEO Nina Jensen and unveiled at the Maison de l’Océan in Paris on 8 December, where she received the prestigious Prince Albert I Grand Medal for the Ocean – Public Engagement (2024).

A true expression of regenerative innovation and a wearable tribute to the sea, the gown is:

- Crafted from PYRATEX® seacell 6, an innovative seaweed-based fibre harvested in Icelandic fjords

- Adorned with Norwegian salmon-leather detailing, a carefully sourced fisheries byproduct

- Finished with a veil of vintage deadstock silk chiffon

Every element—from the seahorse-inspired draping to more than 80 hours of meticulous hand-tailoring—tells a story of mindful creation, blending artistry with ocean stewardship.

Designers: Pegah Afifi & Anne Slaaen
