HEAVY LIFTING DRONE PROJECT IN NORWAY NEW MILESTONE
Norway has been recognized as an aviation nation, especially in the earlier days. The LN registration - La Norvege is clear proof of that, where Norway as an aviation nation was among the first with registered aircraft (balloon). Amundsen's flights with N24 and N25 are also proof. And within unmanned aviation, Norway is among the leaders in the world, something we want to help strengthen even more.
Two entrepreneurs with a passion for aviation and drones started Aeronautics in 2020, which today is called Avion Robotics. The project is a tandem helicopter drone that they have named Phoenix. with a load capacity of up to 1400kg (external load) or 1000kg (load compartment). Fully loaded, the helicopter drone will have a speed of approx. 120 knots, and have a range of 480 nautical miles
(888km).
Certified according to new and stricter regulations.
In 2024, new regulations for drones over 25 kg will come into force. Avion Robotics works proactively with suppliers to meet the requirements of CS 27 as a basis and build on them in collaboration with EASA. Development in the industry is moving forward, but the heavy segment is reaching a level where certification and technical requirements are extremely strict and needs-oriented. This means that the Phoenix project is one of the few that has progressed this far in development.
We missed a better alternative to a helicopter in many operations. Especially in risky tasks.
- Jan Evald Fosen, General Manager Avion Robotics
Must carry out vital work.
Phoenix must be able to perform tasks where helicopters are currently being used. This includes, among other things, forest fire fighting, load handling, assembly work, line stretching, emergency deliveries and sensor flying. By using a drone, there will be less emission of CO2, reduced costs and no direct human risk of lost life. The project has received commercialization
support from innovation Norway and is under an incubator agreement with Kongsberg innovation. We will show the concept drone in Stavanger from 29.08 to 01.09
