Few environments are more extreme than the journey back to Earth 🚀🌍

After nine extraordinary days — travelling further from Earth than any humans have ever gone, re entering the atmosphere at more than 40,000 km/h and enduring temperatures of up to 2,760°C — the Artemis II crew is safely back on Planet Earth and reunited with their families in Houston.

Commander Reid Wiseman described the mission as “the most special thing I ever went through in my life.”

At Elkem, we know what it takes to perform in the harshest conditions imaginable - our Silgrain® was used in the thermal batteries supporting NASA’s Mars rover. Space leaves no room for compromise.

While Artemis II marks the furthest humans have ever travelled, it also reminds us how much is possible when engineers, scientists and industrial partners push boundaries together — on Earth and far beyond.

Welcome home, Orion and the Artemis II crew. And congratulations to everyone who made this historic mission possible 🌕👩‍🚀🚀

From cycling across Norway to helping implement the robotic TappingMate solution at Elkem Rana, Clément Bergadieu has taken full advantage of our Technical Trainee Programme.

His new blog post is a great reminder that the trainee programme goes beyond practical work experience – it's about personal and professional growth, exploration, and finding your place.

What's your superpower? 🦹

Last week, we announced a new chapter for Elkem, as a pure-play metals and materials producer.

Here's a quick look at our core silicon and carbon products, and how they help power both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Elkem embarks on a new chapter 📖

Today we announced an agreement to sell the majority of our Silicones division to Bluestar, to create a focused metals and materials producer.

The transaction will be settled through the redemption of Bluestar’s shares in Elkem. Once the transaction is completed, Bluestar will no longer hold any Elkem shares.

"Since its founding more than 120 years ago, Elkem has consistently optimised its portfolio to adapt to changing market dynamics and capitalise on emerging growth opportunities. By divesting the majority of the Silicones division, we are simplifying our business, sharpening our strategic focus and allocating capital where we see strong long term growth opportunities. We are confident that the agreement also delivers the most favourable outcome for the Silicones division, positioning the business for accelerated specialisation and growth", CEO Helge Aasen said.

The transaction will position Elkem as a leading metals and materials company characterised by:
🔹 a market-leading production footprint to supply fundamentally growing end-markets
🔹 attractive positions in all relevant geographies with value-accretive M&A opportunities
🔹 a captive operating model with leading cost positions
🔹 deep customer relations and strong R&D capabilities to meet future demand
🔹 a robust financial profile over-the-cycle and solid cash flow generation
🔹 flexibility to grow through optimised capital allocation
🔹 supplying critical materials to the green and digital transitions.

The transaction is conditional upon shareholders’ approval at EGM, waivers and approvals from lenders, and other customary approvals.

Folketrygdfondet, Must Invest, DNB Asset Management, Nordea Investment Management, and Perestroika have pre-committed their support for the transaction at the EGM, and fully underwritten a NOK 1,500 million contemplated equity capital raise subject to certain terms and conditions.

The transaction is expected to close by May 2026.

Explosions, atom models, the anatomy of a hibiscus flower — what sparked your interest in science? 🌱

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we asked colleagues across the world what the field means to them.

Their stories show that there are many paths into science, and many directions to grow once you're there. They also remind us that while curiosity often starts the journey, it's encouragement and inclusion that allow people to thrive 🤝🔬

"When Elkem Bjølvefossen was looking for a new plant manager, I did not hesitate. I knew this was the job I wanted."

That's how Bruntveit describes stepping into the role of plant manager at Bjølvefossen in August 2025.

Founded in 1905, the plant specialises in producing ferrosilicon (FeSi) and magnesium‑ferrosilicon master alloys (FSM). But for Stig, the real heart of the job is the people and communities around the plant 🏭🤝

He has seen how industrial sites along Norway's coast provide stability, opportunities, and long‑term value for the regions they support. One of his priorities is ensuring that Elkem continues to develop the skilled workers of the future.

Each year, Bjølvefossen welcomes between five and ten apprentices, creating a bridge between generations and helping transfer decades of industrial expertise💡

"It strengthens identity and belonging at Bjølvefossen and in the surrounding community," Stig says.
