A recent article in the Los Angeles Times highlights the ongoing deadlock among seven states over Colorado River water allocations.

With reservoir levels at historic lows and long-term agreements unresolved, water scarcity in the U.S. Southwest remains a structural challenge.

For agriculture, this reinforces an important shift: improving water productivity at the soil level is becoming increasingly critical.

Technologies that enhance soil-water efficiency will play a growing role in supporting resilience across water-constrained regions.

Seven states have missed a federal deadline to reach a water deal on the Colorado River. They remain divided on how to cut water use.

800+ growers. One recurring theme: water.

At the 2026 American Pistachio Growers Industry Annual Conference, conversations consistently centered on irrigation efficiency, soil resilience, and long-term sustainability.

As pistachio production expands into arid regions, soil performance becomes a competitive advantage.

Desert Control’s LNC technology supports growers in maximizing water use efficiency in sandy soils enabling more resilient orchards under tightening water conditions.

Grateful for the many constructive discussions and partnerships shaping the future of water-smart agriculture.

Today, Desert Control announced the signing of a contract for the manufacturing of its first next-generation production unit.

This marks our transition from prototype development to commercial production capability.

Construction is planned for Q1 2026, with field operation expected in early Q2 2026. The unit will serve as the baseline for future builds as we scale production through 2026.

A clear step forward in strengthening delivery capability and supporting broader market introduction.

California almond growers are facing increasing pressure on water use without compromising yield.

In our latest pilot, Desert Control applied Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) to improve soil water-holding capacity in almond orchards, supporting more resilient production under real farming conditions.

This project reinforces a simple truth:
The future of agriculture is soil intelligence.

New pilot launched in California almonds

Desert Control has initiated a new Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) pilot with HR Farms in Fresno, California, applying LNC to more than 2,000 almond trees.

Almonds are one of the world’s most water-intensive permanent crops and California produces ~80% of global supply. With irrigation already optimized, the next gains depend on soil structure, water retention, and resilience.

This pilot will evaluate LNC’s impact on water use, soil health, nutrient uptake, and yield performance under real commercial orchard conditions.

We look forward to sharing insights as the season progresses.

🌱 A day in the field shaping the future of U.S. agriculture
Meet Saugat Baskota, Senior Agronomist at Desert Control, working side-by-side with the University of Arizona to push our R&D forward across Maricopa, Yuma and California. Every morning starts early syncing with our Norway HQ and aligning the U.S. team before heading into the fields where the real work happens.
From monitoring crop performance to validating trials, collecting data, and ensuring every harvest is captured at the right moment, Saugat’s day reflects the heart of Desert Control’s mission: rigorous science, real-world testing, and advancing soil innovation where it matters most.
Our U.S. field trials are they are the foundation of the technologies we bring to growers in the West.

California’s almond industry sits at the center of today’s water-scarcity challenge.
When one almond requires 4.2 liters of water, the scale of the issue becomes clear and so does the opportunity.
This simplified breakdown shows why water-efficient innovation is essential for the future of high value crops.
At Desert Control, we are focused on solutions that help growers do more with less.

Making Earth Green Again

Climate change and global warming degrade soil and land, causing deserts to spread and temperatures to rise further in a vicious circle.

  • Twelve million hectares of productive land are lost every year due to desertification and drought.

  • By 2025, 1.8 billion people will suffer absolute water scarcity, and 2/3 of the world will experience water-stressed conditions.

  • Restoring the soils of degraded ecosystems has the potential to store up to 3 billion tons of CO2 annually.
