We are proud to be part of a new research and innovation project on drones in fire and rescue services, funded by Norges forskningsråd and led by SINTEF Digital.

Emergency calls are often brief and unclear. In the first critical minutes, response is therefore often based on worst-case assumptions. A drone can often reach the scene before personnel in a vehicle and stream live video, giving emergency services a better basis for scaling the response up or down.

The project will explore how drones can be used as a response service for alarms and reported incidents, including autonomous BVLOS operations and the use of U-space.

Tiepoint will contribute with the operational framework needed to make this work in practice: training, documentation, procedures and operational governance.

Our job is to help ensure that the project is safe, compliant, scalable and ready for real operational use.

At Tiepoint, we operate under a cross-border Light UAS Operator Certificate, LUC, giving us one of the most comprehensive authorisations for drone operations in Europe.

A LUC is not just an approval of procedures or individual operations. It is an approval of the organisation itself.

This means that Tiepoint has demonstrated the required structure, competence, safety management, compliance processes, and operational control to assess and quality-assure our own drone operations under the scope of our authorisation.

With this organisational framework in place, including dedicated Safety Management and Compliance functions, Tiepoint is able to support drone operations both in Norway and across other European countries.

Under our LUC, the process for conducting cross-border operations becomes more structured and efficient. This helps simplify applications and coordination with national aviation authorities, making cross-border drone operations faster, safer, and more predictable.

For organisations connecting to our TRONE system, this can mean:

✅ Faster access to training and competence
✅ Proven operational procedures
✅ Quality assurance and compliance support
✅ The ability to conduct complex drone operations across borders without building a large and complex organisation from scratch

At Tiepoint, we take flight safety seriously. We believe that sharing knowledge, working together, and following strong procedures contribute to a safer and more professional drone industry.

Fire and rescue services are under increasing pressure to respond faster, see more, and make better decisions in complex situations.

That is why many of the larger fire departments in Norway operate drones under Tiepoint’s approval for civil state aviation.

Through our TRONE concept, Tiepoint provides the aviation framework around the operation: documentation, training, pilot checkout, operational control, compliance, and continuous support.

This allows fire and rescue services to strengthen their aerial preparedness without having to build a full-scale aviation organisation of their own.

The result is simple:

✅ More operational capability.

✅ Less administrative burden.

✅ A safer and more compliant way to get airborne.

You fly. We manage.

With TRONE, Tiepoint introduces a new concept for professional drone operations.

TRONE is developed for organizations that want to use drones in a safe, efficient, and scalable way without having to build the entire operational and regulatory setup internally. The customer carries out the operations, while Tiepoint provides the framework through processes, training, operational control, safety, compliance, and support.

This is just the beginning. More information is coming soon.

If you are curious about what TRONE could mean for your organization, feel free to get in touch for an informal conversation.

We are proud to share that Tiepoint has chosen to donate the full €6,000 first prize from the NORDSEC - Nordic Defence and Security Cluster, EUDIS Defence Hackathon 2026 to Fritt Ukraina.

Our team won the hackathon in Trondheim with an AI based solution for low cost interceptor drones under the theme “Defending airspace.” But for us, it felt right that the prize should go directly to supporting those dealing with the realities of war every day.

Fritt Ukraina does important work in providing direct support to Ukrainian units, including within drone operations and air defence. We hope this contribution can make a small but meaningful difference.

At Tiepoint, we believe technology should be grounded in real operational needs, and that innovation also comes with responsibility.

We are grateful to NORDSEC, EUDIS, and all organisers and participants for creating an arena where new defence solutions can be developed, tested, and brought further.

We have now started testing the DJI FlyCart 100 together with Sverre Hogtad at 110 Midt, as part of our continued development of operational drone capabilities.

Introducing a new platform like this is never about going all in from day one. It is about taking controlled and incremental steps, building familiarity, understanding limitations, and ensuring that every aspect of the operation is conducted safely.

The FlyCart 100 represents a different type of system compared to more traditional DJI platforms. While some elements may seem familiar, both the interface and operational logic require dedicated time and structured testing to fully understand, especially in complex real world scenarios.

This is where the right people and the right framework matter.

With strong operational competence in the field and a methodical approach to testing, we are building the foundation needed to evaluate how this platform can be used effectively. At the same time, this work depends on having the necessary regulatory approvals and operational support in place. This ensures that all testing is conducted responsibly, professionally, and in line with applicable requirements.

For us, this is about more than just new technology. It is about enabling safe, scalable, and well governed operations from day one.

Installation and preparation activities are now underway under the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) contract FWC 2025/EMSA/2024/OP/0039 for Lightweight Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (LRPAS).

To date, Tiepoint has carried out installations on seven vessels across Belgium, Denmark, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain, Malta, and Romania. Further vessel integrations are planned following Easter.

Under this contract, Tiepoint will provide vessel-based drone operations in support of EMSA’s pollution response and maritime surveillance services. The operations will contribute to a range of activities at sea, including pollution preparedness, pollution response, and fisheries control.

The work builds on Tiepoint’s operational experience from Norwegian waters, including the NOFO contract, and represents a continuation of delivering our competence in a broader European context.

What happens when drones move beyond observation and start shaping decisions in real time?

In the second and final article, we explore how data became the backbone of the operation, turning insights into action and showing the real impact of integrating technology, automation and AI in the field.

Read the article:

From data collection to operational decision support During the Frøya operation, drone operations quickly evolved from being a tool for visual inspection to becoming a central source of data-driven decision support. In a situation characterized by large geographical distances, a fragmented coastlin...
