Last week, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) hosted the 2nd intensive training week for the Prosafe Doctoral Network in Barcelona. Giving the doctoral candidates the opportunity to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Engineering and Process Safety with Prof. Venkat Venkatasubramanian, gain first hand insights at a site visit at Port de Barcelona, and deepen their network and collaboration throughout different sessions and activities.
Denis Kirchhübel joined for Kairos Technology, providing insights from our efforts within Process Safety for operations, as well as Risk assessment. Throughout the sessions he connected with the doctoral candidates on opportunities to collaborate and visit Kairos Technology for their secondment, to learn about our technology and explore the integration with their research.
Earlier this year, we already had the honour of hosting Julien Amblard (DC at Imperial College London) who learned the basics of MFM while exploring the links between quantitative process simulations and our qualitative process knowledge representation.
It is exciting to see the innovative approaches and the integration of different technologies that the 12 research projects are pursuing and we look forward to hosting more DCs at Kairos throughout this year and next!

Kairos Technology is a supplier of a cutting edge Artificial Intelligence technology, supporting the control room operators to superior insight into any abnormal situation. We work closely with E&P companies and operators to increase insight with accelerated and more targeted responses. This is leading to improved plant performance, increased safety, and reduced emissions.
OUR STORY
Kairos Technology was founded in 2014 and is developing applications based on the theories on Multilevel Flow Modelling (MFM), a theory invented by Morten Lind, (Professor Emeritus, Senior Researcher) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
Kairos - Control Room Assistant is a new product developed in collaboration between Kairos Technology AS, Total, Chrysaor, the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre and Technical University of Denmark. Kairos was developed to solve abnormal situations in real time with operation of processing plants, mainly within the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
OUR TECHNOLOGY
Kairos CRA combines deterministic modeling with deviation propagation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, with streaming real-time data from the various sensors on the plant (e.g. data from the control and safety systems).
Kairos CRA uses process measurements to detect abnormalities and provide the operator with the root cause for the incident, the consequences it may lead to, and suggests counteractions to the control room operators.
HAZARD PREVENTION
Kairos Technology provides you with software to capture all information, skills, and experience on your specific processing system, including all fault scenarios in a functional model. During operations, Kairos CRA uses the functional model to provide the control room operators with the information they need to best handle the situation in the process system. The information is provided to the operators in the control room and information is presented with the early stages of abnormalities to help prevent disturbances.
