Fuel Fighter NTNU

Fuel Fighter NTNU Fuel Fighter NTNU is a student team representing NTNU Trondheim in Shell Eco-marathon Europe Følg oss fram mot målet! Follow us towards our goal!

In English:

2 weeks ago we attended the Nordic Hydrogen Valleys Conference in Trondheim⭐️ Here we got to meet amazing people and partake in panels, discussions and workshops regarding the future of Hydrogen in all of the Nordics.
We even got our own more present challenge, managing the logistics of carrying our car upstairs to the conference hall for display😅

Last week we had our annual car-reveal! 🥳

We would like to thank everyone who came to have a look at the finished product.

We would also like to thank all of our sponsors who have made the completion of this car possible and especially for sending multiple representatives to celebrate the completion of the car with us.

The job however is not done.

In the coming weeks, testing of the car will be essential before the competition this summer at Shell Eco-Marathon. So stay posted to catch a glimpse of that too!😁

🌀Fuel Fighter 5
🌀Fuel Fighter 6

With one of our earlier cars we placed 2nd in the communications award in 2018. In 2019 the FF5 car won the design award and in 2022 the FF6 car placed 3rd in the autonomous competition.

We will be competing with FF5 at Shell-Eco-Marathon 2026!🏅

Every year we compete in the Shell Eco Marathon. The purpose of the Mileage competition is to design a veichle that can drive as far as possible on the least amount of fuel.

We also take part in the Autonomous Driving Competition where teams design, build, and test vehicles with autonomous driving capabilities.

The competition takes place somewhere in Europe every year, for 2026 the competition will be in Poland🏆

Autonomous Group Leader

Erling Hovlid, 24 yrs/old, 2. Year cybernetics.

Q: Can you give a description of your role at Fuel Fighter?

A: I oversee the systems for making the car drive itself. This includes perception systems, software for path planning and physical integration in the car. I work on the link between the autonomous system and the actuators in the car. I assist the developers in autonomous when they are stuck on a problem and arrange meetings with mechanical and electrical.

Q: How manye hours do you usually work per week?

A: 15-20 hours a week

Q: What is your favorite part about your role?

A: When working in Fuel Fighter I get practical experience with the theory I learn in class. I get to familiarize myself with multiple aspects of the car and work with both software and hardware. I love how everyone in Fuel Fighter shares a passion for developoing something together and I feel like I can have a chat with anyone even if I don’t know them.

Q: What experience did you have before applying to this role?

A: Fields like computer engineering, electronic systems and cybernetics are perfect for autonomous. We work with everything from designing algorithms for obstacle avoidance, regulation of physical actuators and PCB design for interfaces.

The interview series continues!

Head of Production

Isak Vooren, 22 yrs/old, studying Material technology.

Q: Tell us a bit about your position at FuelFighter.

A: As Head of Production i make sure that we have the production capabilities needed for the components of the car. In addition i supervise the production to ensure it goes according to plan. This means learning about many different production methods of both metals and composits in addition to exploring alternative solutions when production-related challanges are complex.

Q: What do you do on a regular day at FuelFighter?

A: During the day I make phonecalls or send e-mails to people and companies we want to work with. In the evening i spend time at the workshop discussing solutions or progress of different components.

Q: How many hours do you work a week?

A: This varies a lot, but usually is within the scope of 9-25 hours a week.

Q: What is the best about your position at FuelFighter?

A: The freedom to pursue new processes and methods. To try to find alternative solutions is something i find interesting, and here at FuelFighter i get the oppurtunity to explore what solutions we can use «in-house» and also see what we can do with different businesses to find solutions.

Q: What background did you have before applying to this role?

A: I did not have any particularly relevant background before joining FuelFighter. I joined the first year as a groupmember of chassis and there i learned a lot of the relevant skills i use in my role today.
