Seaweed farming in Europe is a team effort, and the Norwegian Seaweed Cluster is where the Team comes together! 🤝

Seaweed Solutions is a long-time active member of the Norwegian Seaweed Cluster. It gathers seaweed farmers, wild harvesters, processors, technology suppliers, research institutions and public bodies —, not only from Norway and also internationally.

Promoting work together — by gathering partners and sharing knowledge — pushes the whole value chain to move successfully. Through webinars, focus groups and joint projects, members swap what they learn on biology, technology, regulations and markets, and new collaborations take shape. There is always room for more 😊

Our first full truck load of seeds this season is heading out! 🌱

On board: rope substrate carrying Sugarkelp (Saccharina latissima) and Wingedkelp (Alaria esculenta), incubated in our Nursery over the past few weeks, now on its way to our partners along the coast.

Our support doesn't stop once the seeds leave the Nursery: we give technical guidance from the office all year round, and we are hands-on where the action happens too. We will soon be meeting some of our seed customers in person, and working alongside them at the farm, supporting deployment at this time of the year 😊

Kelp Nursery season is ON! 🌱

The gametophyte cultures of Sugarkelp (Saccharina latissima) and Wingedkelp (Alaria esculenta) have been growing with us through the year. They are tended for several months before a single metre of rope substrate is seeded.

They have now been induced to produce sporophytes, and applied to ropes. Once the seedlings have the optimal size, the seeded substrate will soon head out to our partners along the Norwegian and Swedish coasts — from south to north —, kicking off the season out at the farm. Sitting mid-way up the coast, our Nursery is centrally located from our seed customers in either direction 😊

Newton har vært på besøk hos oss i tareklekkeriet! 🌱

I episoden får seerne lære mer om tang og tare, taredyrking og hvordan tare kan brukes som mat.

Newton er NRKs vitenskapsprogram for barn og unge. Tarebransjen er fortsatt en ung næring i Norge, og forhåpentligvis vil mange som ser på Newton i dag være med å utvikle næringen videre i fremtiden. Og ikke minst: spise enda mer tare! 😊

Our Processing Team has been happy for receiving 3 crops of seaweed this harvest season, from our farms in Frøya/Norway: Sugarkelp (Saccharina latissima), Wingedkelp (Alaria esculenta) and Sea lettuce (Ulva spp). These seaweeds are being processed, for being an ingredient in food and in soil biostimulant.

This is the first season we add the green colour to the picture :) We harvest farmed sea lettuce, thanks to a valuable collaboration with . who has extensive experience in cultivating Ulva spp..

Seaforest As - farming in Harøya (mid-Norway) - is harvesting its largest kelp crop to date! 💪

We have been monitoring at the farm, and observed a consistent good growth and quality along the whole farm. This Sugar Kelp (Saccharina latissima) will later become an ingredient in delicious food products 🤩

Seaweed Solutions has been seed supplier and operational support, both at sea and processing. We appreciate this long close collaboration.

The Sugarkelp is looking good under the Winter sun! 🌞

The days are now getting longer and longer. The increase in sunlight drives the rapid growth of the kelp, towards the harvest in late-Spring. Entering this growth phase with such large blade area, allows the kelps to effectively capture that light!

Insights like these - from our R&D sea farms in Frøya - form the foundation 🌱 for improving the quality of the seeds we deliver and 💡to the technical advice we give to our seed customers - helping them to archive better results out at their sea farm 🌊
