Handmade paper production is based on only handmade Nepali paper made from Lokta. Lokta is the raw material for Nepal's most important indigenous paper.

Lokta botanically known as Daphne Bhoula or Daphne Papyracea, is an indegenous plant of Nepal. It is found at the altitude of 6500 feet to 9500 feet from the sea level. The bark of the Lokta is used as raw materials for the purpose of making since ages. Lokta plant is harvested by cutting its stem at ground level without destroying the main root. Lokta regenerates naturally and normally takes 2 to 3 years of time. Hence, there is no adverse effect onthe forest ecology.

Lokta is a shrub species, found in the hills of Nepal both in the east as well as the west. Lokta, the Nepali paper plant is one of the major incomes generating of Nepal. The fibrous inner bark (bast) is used for paper making which is widely known as Nepali Kagaj. These hand-made papers are popular and have high demand in

Lokta paper Natural art postcards with inspirational messages, for send positive messages to your friends or to decorate a piece of furniture or a wall. From centuries, the lokta paper is traditionally made from the bark of a Nepalese shrub, daphne cannabina, also called Lokta. Strips cut into the bark are softened for hours in the water, and brought to a boil. The robustness and flexibility of the paper are due to the fact that the fibres beaten with a wooden mallet on a flat stone for hours. The paste is then uniformly distributed on the sieve, forming a sheet that will dry in the sun on the hills. Some of the sheets obtained are then coloured with natural pigments.

According to the Trade and Export Promotion Centre, Nepal's exports to the US in the last fiscal year 2020-21 were worth Rs13.79 billion, a 46.1 percent jump from Rs9.44 billion in the previous fiscal year. The US accounted for 9.8 percent of Nepal's total exports.

Nepal's main exports to the US are woollen carpets, woollen felt goods, readymade garments, handicrafts and Himalayan dog chews.
