MUNAL is Launching Tomorrow through ISRO!

Nepal is set to make history with the scheduled launch of its first high school satellite, MUNAL, into space on 12th January, 2026!

For Live: https://www.youtube.com/live/GgYh2Vv87ik

MUNAL is a 1U CubeSat designed and developed entirely by high school students from Nepal, through a collaborative initiative between the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Antarikchya Pratisthan Nepal (APN). The project officially commenced on 1st January 2022 with an intensive three-month bootcamp training, followed by the initiation of the main project on 17th November 2021 [1st Mangshir 2078].

It is incredibly exciting to witness the beginning of Nepal’s space journey through the MUNAL satellite. We are extremely proud to witness 9 incredibly dedicated and hardworking students and engineers who made this mission come to life.

Beyond this remarkable journey, MUNAL consists of multiple objectives grouped into primary and secondary objectives. The primary objectives of MUNAL is to conduct in-house design, build, test, and launch of Nepal’s first high school CubeSat alongside demonstrating novel SSoC-based Communication (COM)/On Board Computer (OBC) while continuing two missions of NepaliSat-1: Store & Forward (S&F) and Imaging Mission. MUNAL also have an art mission that reflects Nepal’s unique culture through traditional art engraved on a steel plate and music stored on an SD card, both of which are integrated into the satellite.
Whereas the secondary objectives consist of:
Building a vegetation density database of the Earth’s surface
Implementing image segmentation for landmass identification using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase good image downlink efficiency.
Congratulations to Nepal and the amazing team behind this project! This achievement is a true reflection of collective effort, perseverance, and teamwork. A heartfelt thank you to all our partners and supporters whose trust and support made this project possible. This success belongs to all of you.

[Munal High School Satellite Launch 2026]

Antarikchya Pratisthan Nepal (APN) along with Nepal Academy of Science and Technology is pleased to announce that Munal High School Satellite Project that commenced at Space Systems Laboratory at Kathmandu University High School (KUHS) on Jan 1, 2022 is finally taking place on Jan 12, 2026.

The 1U CubeSat will carry crucial technology demonstration missions as well as missions that are not traditionally placed on satellites. This includes Art mission by Kiran Maharjan and Nepali Music/Culture Mission curated by Prasit Stapith, Rohit Shakya and Rajan Shrestha.

9 students from Sanjibani, Ajad, Chaitanya and KUHS mentored by satellite trained engineers from APN. The funding was done through a mix model where half it came from loans and half of the amount came from donations through several rounds of CSR initiatives. Prominent banks such as Sanima Bank, Global IME Bank Limited, Rastra Banijya Bank, NIMB, then Bank of Kathmandu came together to support the initiative. There were a number of individual donations coordinated through Patreon and SEBS-NA. Flights were coordinated through Nepal Airlines Corporation.

Launch was a no-cost launch based on agreement between New Space India Limited and NAST. Technical testing and solar panel support came from Ananth Technologies, India.

APN would specially like to thank former Principal of KUHS, Tejendra Rajbhandari for allowing the team to use KUHS resources to make this possible. Mr. Rajbhandari was instrumental througout the project stages.
