Ghatasthapana is a significant ritual observed during the festival of Navratri, which is a Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. Ghatasthapana marks the beginning of Navratri and is observed on the first day of the festival. During Ghatasthapana, a sacred ritual is performed where a pot or a vessel is filled with holy water and sown with barley seeds. This pot is then placed in the puja room and worshipped throughout the nine days of Navratri.
The pot is often referred to as the kalash and is decorated with intricate designs and symbols. It is believed that the kalash symbolizes the universe and the seeds sown in it represent the growth and prosperity that devotees seek during the festival. The festival culminates with Dussehra, which signifies the victory of good over evil. Throughout Navratri, various forms of the goddess Durga are worshipped, and devotees seek her blessings for strength, courage, and protection from evil forces.
