Today, the Russian House in Kathmandu hosted a screening of The Tale of Tsar Saltan, based on Pushkin’s fairy tale. The event brought together three schools and became a memorable cultural moment for young viewers. Students from Swornim Batika Secondary School, Alpine Valley School, and the general education school at the Embassy of Russia in Nepal attended the screening. Among the guests was also Rykhaev Rinchen, Counselor-Minister of the Embassy.

Sarik Andreasyan’s film was more than just an introduction to a modern screen adaptation of Russian classics; it also became an occasion to talk about literature, cinema, and Russian culture. The students followed the story with interest, and the event itself took place in a warm and festive atmosphere.

After the screening, the students visited the exhibition “Beautiful Russia”, dedicated to Russia Day. Created in cooperation with the Russian Geographical Society, the exhibition introduced the children to the beauty and diversity of our country. The students examined the displays with interest and spent extra time looking at individual works.

Particular attention was drawn to the exhibition “Youth. Beauty. Loss. In Memory of Those Killed in Starobelsk”, dedicated to the tragedy in Starobelsk on May 22, 2026. It preserves the memory of the children who died and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from war.

Events like these at the Russian House help students discover Russian literature, contemporary cinema, and cultural initiatives that bring together memory, art, and the genuine response of young people.

On June 9, 2026, the Russian House, in cooperation with Riviera International Academy, commemorated the 227th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, the founder of modern Russian language and literary art, rightly regarded as “our everything”. The event took place with the participation of 10th‑grade students as part of the cultural and educational exchange program between Russia and Nepal.

The students toured the Russian House, visited the Pushkin sculpture, and learned about his life, literary legacy, and contribution to world literature. They also explored the Russian House library and became acquainted with its activities and resources.

The highlight of the program was the photo exhibition “A Journey into the World of His Tales”, which introduced the students to Pushkin’s famous works and fairy tales. The program included a screening of the documentary “The Leading Russian Linguist of the World”, dedicated to the outstanding scholar Lyudmila Alekseyevna Verbitskaya, former president of Saint Petersburg State University, whose work greatly advanced the promotion of the Russian language and education.

Pushkin gave us not only great works in many genres but also the modern Russian language itself – a tool for thought, feeling, and creativity. It was after Pushkin’s language reform that literature became widely accessible: its foundation became the language of the people, understood by everyone. The new “great and mighty” literary language that Pushkin created is still in use today.

This visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about Russian literature, culture, and academic achievements, while strengthening cultural understanding and educational cooperation between Russia and Nepal.
