SEBI bricks are neither burnt nor handmade. They are made with a special inorganic chemical, tested by JIS, courtesy of Eiken Co Ltd. After visiting Nepal and noticing the poor quality of construction materials, Japanese scientists stimulated the directors of SEBI to contemplate making high quality eco bricks using one of their chemicals used in casting concrete foundations. This chemical prevents
damage to concrete that is in contact with soil. The challenge was to produce an excellent eco-friendly brick at an affordable cost. After months of intensive testing, an affordable Eco-friendly, non-polluting clean green brick was developed. The chemical was developed to prevent damage to concrete foundations. The chemical is used extensively in Japan to stabilize landslide prone hilly slopes, as well as casting pavements. The same is also used in laying low cost driveways that can withstand dynamic load of 20 tons. Bricks made using this advanced technology are highly robust. JIS Japan conducted Freeze and Thaw tests for over 30 cycles that has proved the durability of the brick. Even after 30 cycles of Freeze and thaw tests, no or negligible deformation or impairment was seen. This result was surprising even to the JIS scientists. Normal Freeze and Thaw tests conducted on concrete is done for a period of 15 cycles. This test is used to prove the durability of the test product. Local coal fired burnt bricks emit over a million emission of CO2 per annum which directly affects the health of public, farm land soil and the environment. ECBC (Energy Conversation & Building Code) encourages construction sector to adopt energy saving products. So, the use of Resource Efficient Bricks like ours would comply with such legislation. Super Eco Bricks have better thermal properties, smooth and uniform sizes, have higher compressive strengths and have less breakage. They are also available in multiple color choices. SEBI gives you a solution for an appropriate green environment friendly technology. Our bricks have a minimum of 12 Newton strength which is double the amount of normal local bricks. With the introduction of new environmental laws and low quality of fired clay bricks, the leading architects and builders have now started looking for options for replacing solid clay fired bricks with more energy efficient products (REBs), which will not only bring in savings to the brick manufacturers but also will benefit builders in terms of savings in steel due to lesser dead load of walls, faster pace of construction, less consumption of mortar etc. which can account for 5-7% savings in construction cost. In addition, the residents would also save in terms energy bills due to insulating properties of REBs. Government of Nepal has enforced strict regulations on burnt clay brick production. Bricks kilns are no longer welcome near city limits and have been asked to move away from populated areas. This has increased the transportation costs and overall cost of local burnt clay bricks. The quality of local handmade bricks is pathetic, prone to irregular size and shape, high ratio of damaged or broken bricks, uneven baking, and high water absorption. This has led to construction professionals looking for affordable alternatives. Cement blocks is one alternative being currently used, however the quality of cement blocks is poor, providing low strength, poor workmanship and weak structures. Water retention and absorption is also high. This does not allow for a sturdy construction. The objective of Sebi Bricks is to develop an environment friendly affordable alternative to the fired clay brick. It has been christened SUPER ECO BRICK due to the super features of the brick.
