Get Paper Industry, A Hand Made Paper Products Cooperative, is a hand made paper and paper products making unit. It uses waste materials like cotton rags, waste paper, agriculture waste like banana fibbers, straw and water hyacinth. The production process is environmentally friendly and paper drying is based on sun light. Get Paper Industry is established as a hand made paper company in 1985 as General Paper Industry. It used to use Lokta plant as a raw material. After building relation with The Body Shop in 1988, GPI learnt about the recycling technique from the Consultants of The Body Shop. It was with the help of Mara Amat and Sam Roddick, daughter of Dame Anita Roddick OBE and Gordon Roddick of The Body Shop International that GPI learnt about production of recycled paper and paper products. After learning about recycling technique, GPI became a fair trade supplier (that time known as Trade Not Aid Supplier) of The Body Shop International in 1989. As a result the number of people working in the company increased from 14 during 1989 to 117 in 1993. From 2005, GPI is constituted as a cooperative with all the staff as members of the cooperative.

Growing a Greener Future

For decades, we sourced saplings from the local forest office. Last year, we started our own nursery to grow our own, making this year the first time we planted saplings raised by us.

Today, we shared some of our extra saplings with students of Anita Milan School, which our factory closely supports. They will plant them in their school garden and nearby community forest.

Because planting trees is about more than growing forests—it’s about nurturing a generation that understands the importance of caring for their community, their environment, and their future.

Every year, our annual tree plantation program reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and responsible manufacturing.

This year, we planted 2,000 trees—a milestone made even more meaningful because, for the first time, every sapling came from our in-house nursery. Watching these saplings grow from seed to soil has made this year’s plantation especially rewarding. They truly felt like our own.

Education should never be limited by the cost of a school uniform.

This year, GPI was honored to provide 132 school uniforms and pairs of shoes and 60 scholarships to children in Mahadevbesi, where many families work tirelessly breaking stones to make a living.

For many years, we’ve stood beside this community, believing that every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and build a better future.

Every uniform is more than clothing. Every scholarship is more than financial support. Together, they are a promise that hope will always be worth investing in.

Today we continued our 20-year tradition of sharing “छोरीलाई स्कुल पठाऔ” (Send Your Daughter to School) bags with children from marginalized communities around Budhanilkantha Municipality. What began as a fight against the old belief that daughters didn’t need education has grown into a reminder that inequality still exists—just in quieter ways.

Even now, girls are the first to be pulled out of school when money is tight. They miss classes due to menstrual restrictions, household responsibilities, and the cost of uniforms, shoes, and transport.

This campaign is our small effort to keep daughters in classrooms, encourage families to invest in their girls, and spark conversations that push our community forward. Every bag is a reminder: our daughters deserve equal opportunity, every single day.
