We're excited to celebrate the best of the best at our annual awards evening on 14 November in Auckland. A highlight of the night is always the prestigious SCNZ Chair's Award, which recognises individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to New Zealand’s structural steel industry.

David Moore, Managing Director of Grayson Engineering 2015 Limited, was 2024’s worthy recipient. David is well regarded by his peers, and is very approachable and supportive. He has maintained an open-door policy, assisting fabricator members to raise standards and providing additional capacity to support other fabricators when needed. As SCNZ Treasurer post-COVID, David successfully helped SCNZ to navigate the volatile period. He is also passionate about futureproofing the structural steel industry by encouraging support for young, emerging talent, and he has served as a judge for the SCNZ Apprentice of the Year award for several years.

We look forward to announcing the 2025 SCNZ Chair’s Award recipient at the event.

2025 SCNZ Excellence in Steel Awards – introducing finalist #17 of 20:
Over $3m Finalist: Te Kaha One New Zealand Stadium – West Stand

The West Stand is the largest and most technically demanding of the arena’s four stands. With over 2,000 tonnes of structural steel, it accommodates a diverse mix of spaces – from player warm-up zones and hydrotherapy areas to a full media level, corporate suites and a major function space. Each zone imposed unique structural demands, requiring the steelwork to balance efficiency, resilience and long-term value.
