As the planned deorbit of the International Space Station approaches, what comes next?

The ISS helped prove that microgravity matters. The next challenge is building the infrastructure to make it commercially viable at scale.

In his latest article, Alex Linossier, our Head of Customer, explores how the LEO (Low Earth Orbit) economy is evolving beyond a single orbital laboratory.

He examines the growing role of commercial space stations and autonomous free-flyers - and why both will be critical to the future of microgravity research, development, and manufacturing.

Our Founder and CEO, Jamie France, was pleased to welcome the U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, Jared Novelly, to Outlier Space last week.

Discussions focused on the growing opportunities emerging from the commercial space economy and New Zealand's increasing role as a hub for world-class aerospace innovation 🚀

We appreciate the Ambassador taking the time to engage with the companies helping advance the future of space technology and look forward to strengthening collaboration between New Zealand and the United States across the space sector.

Thank you for visiting, and thank you to our friends at Outset Ventures for making the opportunity possible.

How might space enable new commercialisation pathways for biotechnology?

That's the question we'll be exploring at the AusBiotech International Conference next month.

Our panellists include:

- Dr Sarah Kessans, Associate Professor at University of Canterbury and founder of Reciprocal Space Limited

- Jackie Vullinghs, General Partner at Airtree

Come join the conversation:

🚀 Panel discussion: Lab – Orbit – Factory: How space enables new commercialisation pathways

🌏 AusBiotech International Conference - Queensland, Australia

🗓️ Fri 23 Oct 2026, 1:10pm-1:55pm

It will be moderated by Alex Linossier, our Head of Customer, who has worked and led across global industries, engineering programs, government advisory, and academic research.

If you're attending AusBiotech, we look forward to seeing you there.

If not, Alex is always happy to connect with researchers, innovators and industry leaders wanting to explore the opportunities unlocked in orbit. Contact him via our website 👆🏻

Why is microgravity so significant? Because when you remove the effects of gravity, you can study and create things that aren't possible on Earth.

In orbit, researchers have the potential to accelerate discovery across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences.

Microgravity enables you to:

✨ Remove the effects of convection, buoyancy and sedimentation

✨ Explore new biological pathways

✨ Develop new cell structures

✨ Investigate advanced materials

By unlocking access to microgravity, we're helping our customers access the impossible.

Exciting news 🚀

Outlier Space has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yuri USA, Inc. to develop an integrated pathway for life-science research in microgravity.

This brings together Yuri's flight-proven life-science hardware, scientific services and mission integration expertise with Outlier Space's reusable payload delivery and return capability.

Together, we're working to simplify access to microgravity research and accelerate scientific discovery in orbit.

Outlier Space Founder and CEO Jamie France said:

"Researchers need a reliable, repeatable pathway to conducting meaningful science in orbit. By combining our end-to-end capabilities with Yuri's world-leading expertise, we're removing the barriers to microgravity research and helping enable the next generation of scientific discovery."

Presenting to a room of more than 1,000 investors and media isn't something most founders do every day.

Especially when you’re scheduled first on the agenda.

Fortunately, our CEO and Founder, Jamie France, was speaking about a topic that combines both his passion and expertise: unlocking the potential of microgravity 🚀

Thank you to Icehouse Ventures for inviting Outlier Space to take the stage alongside some of NZ's most innovative start-ups.

The Showcase was a reminder of the depth of innovation, expertise and ambition being built by Kiwis.

We’re grateful to be part of the Icehouse portfolio.

Get inspired by some of the other companies that presented on the night: Kelvius, Advemto, OneKidney, Biowave, Tracksuit, Crimson Education, BioOra, VXT, SKN, Kea Aerospace and Trepo.

Photos thanks to Icehouse Ventures.

One message that our CEO and Founder, Jamie France, has consistently shared throughout his recent media interviews is the importance of backing ambitious deep-tech founders - and recognising those who paved the way before us.

We hope our journey encourages more Kiwis to tackle globally significant problems and build world-class technology companies.

It can be done 🚀More below.
