Do you know what powers your aluminium?

Producing just one tonne of aluminium requires approximately 13–14 MWh of electricity. With that much energy involved, the source of the electricity matters.

Depending on where aluminium is produced, the smelting process may be powered by coal, gas, or renewable energy such as hydroelectricity.

At New Zealand’s Tiwai Point smelter, aluminium production is powered predominantly by renewable electricity from the South Island.

Huge congratulations to Daniel and the outstanding Nebulite® Taranaki team – Winners at the 2026 Window & Glass Association NZ Design Awards (Residential – Lower North Island
category) for House on Mill.

This is an exceptional result for a project that proves great design isn’t about scale—it’s about ingenuity, precision, and intent.

On a constrained urban site, this project is a masterclass in getting every detail exactly right. Through clever joinery design – including custom shrouds and carefully considered glazing – the team has created a home that feels open, private, and full of light, all at once.

What makes this even more impressive is how seamlessly performance, cost-conscious thinking, and architectural expression have been balanced. It’s thoughtful, refined, and incredibly well executed.
