What a night for our team. Future Energy has been named Best Large Business at the 2026 SEANZ Aotearoa Industry Awards, and took out Best Off Grid PV System for our Yasawa Islands project in Fiji. We also share in the win for Best Grid Connected PV System for the Fisher & Paykel Penrose HQ, a project led by Revolve Energy, where we came on board as one of the installation partners.

Solar shopping and keep hearing "grid tied," "hybrid," "off grid" and have no idea what any of it means?

Grid tied is your standard setup, no battery, cheapest and pays itself off the fastest. Hybrid throws a battery in the mix so you've still got power at night or when the grid drops out. Off grid means you're cutting ties with the grid altogether, mostly for places that can't easily connect to it anyway.

Most people ask us for solar on one roof. Flowerday Homes asked for ten, all at once. Their Te Puke development runs 10 homes off one site. So we built one system, then customised it home by home: orientation, panel size, and battery ready inverters on 3 roofs for whenever they're ready to add storage.

Across 10 homes, there are 80 panels, 35.84kW of solar, with an estimated $17,619 back in year one across the portfolio. Most homes pay for themselves in around 5 years 🏠☀️

From above, you can see exactly why this makes sense ☀️ NZ Labour Hire's site in Penrose has 32 panels, 20.8kW, sized around what they actually use rather than a generic package. Their power bill was sitting around $6,340 a year - this system is set to cut that to roughly $1,720, saving $4,620 in year 1 and paying for itself in under 5 years.

Same roof, but now with a very different power bill.

Full electric home, no gas connection, and a Central Otago winter to plan for. This Arrowtown property runs underfloor heating, hot water and an EV on power alone, so we paired a 10.35kW solar array with a Tesla Powerwall 3, sized to carry the heating load overnight.

Now with 37.4kWh generated daily, this home now has full backup if the grid drops, and an estimated $4,272 saved in year one, dropping the annual bill to around $637 💰
