๐Ÿ”ฉ Orewa Renovation โ€“ Twenty-Six Beams and Counting ๐Ÿ—๏ธโ„๏ธ

We're up in ลŒrewa tackling a renovation that involves adding 26 beams. Count them... 26! ๐Ÿ˜„

It's the dead of winter, and only one of the photos managed to find a patch of blue sky. The rest are about as grey as you'd expect this time of year. The only thing keeping the winter blues at bay? It's footy season, and the steelies are merrily thumping away regardless.

Take a closer look and you'll spot a few familiar faces...

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ The obligatory site bin, which seems to feature in about 90% of our social media posts.
๐Ÿ  Plenty of building wrap, doing its best to keep the lads dry... and warm-ish.
๐Ÿ”ฉ A whole lot of steel making another renovation possible.

It's not glamorous every day, but it's these bread-and-butter projects that keep us doing what we love.

A big thanks to and the ever-practical Pete Van Grinsven for another well-thought-out design. We love your work!

๐Ÿ‘ Tradies Don't Hear This Enough ๐Ÿ”ฉ

Every now and then an email lands in our inbox that deserves to be shared.

After a recent project in ลŒrewa, our client, Leesin, sent us this little side note:

"Corne was great to work with onsite and is very knowledgeable. Please pass this on as I don't think tradies in our industry are told enough."

We couldn't agree more.

Our team spend their days solving problems, fabricating steel, working in the weather, and making sure projects keep moving. Most of the time they quietly pack up at the end of the day and head off to the next job.

So when someone takes a few minutes to recognise their effort, it means a lot.

A huge shoutout to Corne. Your knowledge, professionalism and willingness to help don't go unnoticedโ€”by us or by our clients.

And thanks to Leesin for taking the time to send the feedback. It's appreciated more than you probably realise.

Here's to recognising great people doing great work.

โœจ Remember This Beast? Here's the Finished Product. ๐Ÿ”ฉ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

A little while ago we shared this staircase while it was still in the workshop, talking about the CAD challenges, reviews, collaboration and fabrication that went into bringing it to life.

Well... here it is.

The first few photos show the installation phase.

Tools everywhere.
A workshop's worth of gear spread across the site.
A steel fabricator looking just the right amount of stressed while working towards a totally achievable timeframe. ๐Ÿ˜„

Then you get to the "after" photos...

The tools disappear.
The dust settles.
The drama is forgotten.

All that's left is a stunning architectural staircase with steel stringers, treads and balustrades coming together exactly as everyone imagined back in the CAD phase.

This is why we love these projects.

People often see the finished product and think it simply appeared one day. What they don't see are the hundreds of decisions, countless hours, and incredible teamwork that happen behind the scenes to make it look effortless.

For now, we're just going to bask in the glory...
..until the next challenging architectural project lands on our desk.

And we wouldn't have it any other way.

A massive thanks again to JCY Architects and MSC Engineers. Watching this one go from concept, to workshop, to installation, to finished masterpiece has been a privilege.

โญ Another 5-Star Review... We'll Take That! ๐Ÿ”ฉ๐Ÿ‘

We love reading reviews like this because they tell us we're getting the important stuff right.

Alan recently summed up his experience with Black Steel Mobile:

โญ "Were under half the price of the other quote."
โญ "Were efficient and easy to deal with."
โญ "Had good communication."

That's music to our ears.

Now, let's be honest... we're not always the cheapest, and we're certainly not trying to win work by racing to the bottom.

But every now and then we can save a client some serious money without compromising on quality, and that's a win for everyone.

Good communication.
Efficient service.
Quality steelwork.
Fair pricing.

That's what we're aiming for every single day.

A huge thank you to Alan for taking the time to leave a review. It genuinely means a lot to the whole team.

Now... if you'll excuse us, we've got some more steel to fabricate. ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ”ฉ Greenhithe โ€“ This One's Got It All ๐Ÿ—๏ธโ˜•

Another renovation, this time in Greenhithe, and these photos literally have everything.

๐Ÿ‘ท An apprentice learning from a tradesman... who also completed his apprenticeship right here at Black Steel Mobile. That's something we're pretty proud of.

๐Ÿ”ฉ A super tidy three-way timber-to-steel connection coming together.

๐Ÿ“ Pitched beams waiting for their moment.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ A material lifter standing by, ready to earn its keep.

โ˜• And of course, no site would be complete without a couple of steel fabricators standing back, thoughtfully studying the job... takeaway coffee in hand, solving the world's problems one beam at a time.

That's what makes this trade so enjoyable. It's not just about the finished productโ€”it's about passing on knowledge, solving challenges, and building the next generation of tradespeople while creating something that will be around for decades.

Happy days in Greenhithe.

๐Ÿ”ฉ Here We Are... On Another Renovation in Ponsonby ๐Ÿ˜„โ˜•

Sometimes I feel like every second post could start with:

"Here we are on a renovation in Ponsonby..."
..followed closely by:

"With thanks to Jones Architects and NCL Engineers..."

But you know what?

It's never boring.

This kind of work is the marmalade on our bread and butter. Tight access, clever engineering, great architects, and another opportunity to get stuck into some quality structural steel.

One photo in particular caught my eye.

Three years ago, we posted a photo of Niki on site looking a bit like a rabbit in the headlights. Fast forward to today and look at him now.

Still handsome, obviously... (that's a prerequisite for becoming a steel fabricator). ๐Ÿ˜Ž

But more importantly, he's cool, calm and collectedโ€”coffee in hand, planning the next stage of the job like he's been doing it forever.

Watching our apprentices grow into confident tradespeople is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. The steel's important, but seeing our people develop is even better.

Happy days.

๐Ÿ”ฉ Back in the Residential Structural Groove ๐Ÿ—๏ธโ„๏ธ

We're back doing what we do best...

Residential structural steel.

The sun's sitting low in the sky, so it must be winter, but that doesn't slow the BSM site fabrication team down. They're still out there smashing beams and keeping projects moving.

One thing we love about these photos is how they tell the story of the job.

The steel posts are already in place, giving the chippies a head start while we're in the background fabricating the floor beams ready for installation. Good planning, good teamwork, and everyone keeps moving forward together.

If you look carefully, you'll even spot our hazard board making a cameo appearance. We're guessing our Project Manager included that as a subtle reminder that, while we all love a good steel photo, nothing is more important than making sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

Now that's a message we're always happy to share.

๐Ÿ–ค Well... There Goes My Plan. ๐Ÿ”ฉโœจ

I was all set to get back into posting big, scary structural steel projects...
..then one of our Project Managers dropped these photos of this architectural stair and screen installation in Remuera.

Game over.

Honestly, the photos do all the talking.

Super sharp, clean lines.
Black on black.
**Simple. Elegant. Timeless.**

It just works in every way.

Sometimes steel is there to hold everything up.
Sometimes it's there to steal the show.

A massive shoutout to the team at Dorrington Atcheson Architects for another stunning design. We love collaborating on projects like these.

Enjoy these ones...

We'll get back to the big, scary structural steel next time. Promise. ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ”ฉ When Architectural Meets Structural ๐Ÿ—๏ธโœจ

Every now and then a project comes along that reminds you just how closely architectural vision and structural reality have to work together.

These photos show a steel staircase currently under fabrication in our workshop, and what a beast it is.

Before we got to this point there were:
๐Ÿ“ CAD challenges
๐Ÿ“ Design reviews
โฑ๏ธ Tight timeframes
๐Ÿค Plenty of collaboration

And now we're into the fun part.

Steel stringers.
Steel treads.
Steel balustrades.
The whole works.

It's one thing to see a staircase on a screen. It's another thing entirely to see it taking shape in steel in the workshop.

We're pretty excited about this one.

And if you think these photos look good, just wait until we get it installed. The really pretty photos are still to come. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Big thanks to JCY Architects and MSC Engineers for the vision, the detail, and the teamwork that helped bring this monster to life.
