Condensation isn't just an inconvenience—it can be a sign that moisture isn't being managed effectively inside your home.

It happens when warm, moisture-laden air comes into contact with colder surfaces, like windows or poorly insulated walls. Over time, excess moisture can contribute to mould growth, reduced comfort, and even impact the durability of the building itself.

While airtightness alone isn't the answer, it's an important part of the solution.

When a home is airtight and paired with a well-designed ventilation system, fresh air enters where it's intended to, while moisture is removed in a controlled way. Instead of relying on uncontrolled air leaks, the home can regulate temperature, humidity and indoor air quality much more effectively.

The result is a home that's warmer, drier and healthier to live in—while also delivering better energy efficiency and building performance.

Changing the way the industry thinks about airtightness.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that achieving airtightness is difficult, time-consuming and expensive.

Feedback like this tells us we're helping change that perception.

After learning more about AeroBarrier, the team at 22 Degrees Building Services Engineering came away with a new perspective: airtightness doesn't have to be complicated.

Making airtightness simpler means more projects can achieve better building performance, with measurable results and less risk.

Thank you to Sophie Scott and the team for the kind words. We're excited to see more people across the industry embracing a better way to build.

We spend around 90% of our lives indoors. Yet most people never think about the quality of the air they're breathing.

Hidden air leaks in a building allow dust, pollutants and other unwanted contaminants to enter through the building envelope. At the same time, they make it harder for heating, cooling and ventilation systems to do their job effectively.

That's why airtightness matters.

A well-sealed building isn't about trapping air inside, it's about reducing uncontrolled air leakage so fresh air is delivered through planned ventilation. This helps create healthier indoor environments, improves comfort, and allows HVAC systems to better regulate temperature and humidity.

Because when it comes to indoor air quality, it's not just about how much fresh air enters a building, it's about where it enters, and how it's managed.

Five weeks ago we walked into one of Dunedin's coldest student flats.

Here's what happened.

Six weeks ago this was one of the coldest flats on Castle Street. Now it's where everyone comes to warm up.

Same house. Same winter. One day's work.

"It's just not a nice feeling as a parent."

We spoke to one of the parents of the students living in the Dunedin flat. This is what she had to say.

Houses and people both need constant fresh air — not just when a window happens to be open. That's what airtightness plus ventilation delivers: continuous, controlled fresh air, 24/7, regardless of the weather outside.

The villa met Healthy Homes Standards but was too hard to keep warm – now it's airtight.

We spoke to a public health expert about what cold, damp housing actually does to people.

The answer isn't just about comfort. It's about the long-term impact on our health, our communities and our healthcare system.

Listen to Matthew Cutler-Welsh, NZ Green Building Council, explain why better homes matter.

"It feels like a new home"

48 hours after the AeroBarrier application, we checked back in with the boys.
