Founded in 2014, brothers Mel and Justin Riley took their design background and decades of building experience to create DC Build. Specialising in bringing architects’ visions to life, the team work accross Auckland and Bay of Plenty crafting high-end homes. If a home is architecturally designed, with exceptional craftsmanship and a happy owner, it’s probably a DC Build.

After 12 years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close DC Build.

What started as something we built together as brothers and best mates turned into a journey we’ll always be proud of.

Along the way, all the guys who worked with us became like family, and many have turned into lifelong mates. The same goes for our clients and subbies, who we’ve built genuine relationships with over the years.

With a few hard hits along the way, it’s time for us to close this chapter.

To our subbies, thank you for the work, loyalty, and support over the years. We know this won’t land easily for everyone, and that’s not something we take lightly.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us and was part of the ride, it’s meant more than we can put into words.

Like any long journey, it hasn’t been perfect, but we’ve always done our best.

Proud of what we built together, and grateful we got to do it side by side.

Recently completed on Waiheke.

A considered rebuild of an existing bach — keeping the spirit of the original, while delivering a more resolved and durable outcome.

Set on a steep, established site, the build required a measured approach to layout, access and construction, with two primary forms stepping down the slope and connecting through a central glazed link.

An important milestone for the team as we celebrate several of our apprentices becoming fully qualified craftsmen.

We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment these lads have shown throughout their journey. It’s a significant achievement, and one that reflects the high standards and craftsmanship.

A massive thank you to the entire team who played a role in mentoring and supporting them, and to Brent from BCITO for helping guide them through to qualification. Congratulations Bucky, Reid and Jack your names are etched onto the trophy! Now we work!

A few months ago, our Matakana project reached its final stages, with interior fit-outs well underway.

It’s been awesome to see everything take shape, and we’re stoked with how it’s all coming together. As always, we’ve loved working with and look forward to collaborating again in the future!

Our Waiheke project with is coming together beautifully! Over the summer, we’ve installed all the joinery throughout the home, with the final pieces of glass now in place. And if you look closely, you’ll spot the first sections of cedar cladding taking shape.

An update from Justin is coming later this month—stay tuned and follow so you don’t miss it!

One of the highlights of our Browns Bay renovation with was the upstairs sitting room. Wrapped in cedar across the walls and ceiling, it tied back to the home’s cedar entryway, creating a sense of continuity. Each plank was carefully placed to keep everything perfectly aligned for a seamless finish.

Baildon Road.

This time last year, we were in the midst of a full home renovation and extension in Grey Lynn. The project included a new kitchen, a spacious hardwood deck with integrated planter boxes, an attic conversion, and a complete layout redesign with new internal walls—maximising the home’s high ceilings and skillion-style roof to create a more open and functional space.
