Your opening date is set by paperwork before the builders arrive. On a fitout that needs consent, design, consent drawings, engineer input and council processing come first, and the council’s clock stops whenever it asks for more information. Once it‘s built, the public can’t use the premises until there‘s a code compliance certificate or a certificate for public use. None of it runs to a fixed timetable; it depends on the building, the work and how complete the application is. Before the rent starts, ask your landlord about a fitout period that covers the whole path, not just the build.
