Always great to see our people recognised! Huge thanks to TET Stadium & Events Centre for this shout‑out and well done to our team in Inglewood team for the mahi you do everyday 🙌

Whitaker Civil Engineering have been an absolute force behind the scenes at TET Stadium over the last few months.

While delivering the new sewer line through Inglewood, their team has gone above and beyond to support our changing rooms project. Their groundwork has helped position the build in a more central, practical location, keeping the project moving and setting it up to better serve our stadium and wider community.

All of this happened during our busiest month, while they were actively laying the new pipe. They worked in closely with us, communicated well, and helped keep roads clear and operations running smoothly through NZ Masters Athletics, the Royal NZ Pipe Band Championships, and Relay for Life.

Not all heroes wear capes but some wear hi-vis!

We are incredibly grateful for their support and the difference they continue to make.

On this frosty morning, New Plymouth District Council and Whitaker Civil had the pleasure of hosting a group of NZISM (NZ Institute of Safety Management) professionals at the Tūparikino Active Community Hub project site.

With civil works progressing steadily, it was a fantastic opportunity to explore the unique considerations of the development from environmental protections to the robust safety systems in place.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the kōrero and site walk-through. It’s great to see industry collaboration in action!

Marking 15 years of collective commitment to health and safety leadership.

Whitaker Civil is proud to be recognised as one of the 54 remaining founding members of the Business Leaders’ Health and Safety Forum, celebrating its 15th anniversary at Parliament this week.

Since 2010, we have been part of a leadership community committed to improving health and safety outcomes – not just within our organisation, but across New Zealand. This commitment comes from the top, with Chris Whitaker, Frances Boyce, Graeme Dravitzki & Chris Lane making conscious decisions to invest time and resources in enabling our people to thrive.

We are honoured to be recognised for this journey and remain committed to playing our part in building healthier, safer, and thriving workplaces for the future.

Mātairangi is now officially open! What started as a concept just a few months ago has become a reality thanks to the incredible unity and collaboration of everyone involved. Whitaker Civil was honoured to be entrusted with the construction of this remarkable asset. It holds great significance for the local Māori, particularly the Puketapu Hapu, Taranaki, on whose land it stands. The deck offers stunning 360-degree views and serves as a welcoming sight for those flying into New Plymouth. A huge thank you to the team and to all that were involved in the project.

Since starting work at the port we have been very aware of the environmental impact we have on the surrounding bird and sea life, The Little Blue Penguin ( Kororā) is one of those as, they nest in the Nga Motu area.
Some of our staff got to complete a course on how to handle the Little Blue Penguin, as they are declining in numbers. We needed to be sure if we did encounter them and had to handle, that we were doing it correctly.
Alongside of this The Little Blue Foundation expressed to WCE what it needed for the Kororā to continue survive and bred in our area. Rather than have remaining/leftover timber from jobs go to landfill we manufactured approximately 25 new nesting boxes.
It is now great to see that a little time and materials is helping our Little Blues' thrive.
The GPS tracking shows how far the parents travel at sea; they are usually out between 3-5 days before returning to their nesting box briefly to feed their young.

Working with Nga Motu Marine Reserve Society, The Little Blue Foundation & Port Taranaki.

The Taranaki 2024 Women in Trades event was a huge success and we were proud to be there in support. Thanks to our team for showcasing how to operate machinery and give perspective on what it's like to work in the civil infrastructure sector.
Big thank you to Q Transport and Humes for assisting us on the day.

It is with real sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our engineer, Shane Benton.
Shane was not only an amazing person but a friend and a mate who will be sorely missed. He has been part of the Whitaker Family for many years and will be remembered for his ability to fix and repair almost anything. Our thoughts go out to Shane’s family at this difficult time.
