In 2018 the opportunity to align Simcox Construction with Isaac Construction introduced a new partnership under the Isaac Group.

The combination of our values, expertise, and workforce cements us as one of the largest and most capable civil construction groups in the South Island; with over 300 experienced staff throughout the Mainland completing projects to the highest standard. We have a wealth of experience in working in the unique environment of the Marlborough Sounds and region, providing locals, developers, private businesses, Marlborough District Council and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) with quality earthworks, 3 waters, flood protection, roading and structures projects. Earthworks - We have a range of small to very large machinery that we can put to work shaping entire subdivisions, vineyards, dams, stopbanks, rock groins and so forth. Drainage 3 waters work- Drainlaying and waterway infrastructure, including reticulated fresh water, stormwater and sewer installations in public roadways or in commercial properties. Quarries - We are currently operating from our two drill and blast hard rock quarries, Pukaka Quarry and Barracks Quarry. Simcox Construction can also provide large rock which is used extensively for riverbank and foreshore protection. Our staff are highly skilled workers who are trained in all aspects of quarrying operations, which ensures our working environments meet industrial health and safety standards. We also offer a state of the art set of mobile crushing, screening and drilling plant. We have our own quarry managers and shot firers in house and can do external quarry work as well as our own. During the recent severe weather Marlborough has endured, our team have been out there in the thick of it! We've carried out sandbagging, pump set-ups, and floodwater monitoring. Simcox is proud to be part of the Marlborough community, and we're looking forward to supporting the recovery.

Supporting the communities where we live and work is an important part of living our ‘Create a Better Future’ value. Selmes Garden Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing support and opportunities for disabled people in Marlborough. Recently, we were able to repurpose waste material from our landfill, alongside drainage chip from our quarry, to create a new floor for their seedling, perennial, and native plant tunnelhouses.

The previous floor had inadequate drainage, leaving the cobbles slippery and causing pools of standing water during daily watering and in wet weather. Working together with Outward Bound (who provided the manpower), an excellent result was achieved – and Selmes couldn't be happier with the outcome!

Our team had a busy weekend working on a slip in French Pass for Marlborough Roads, which was blocking access for residents. After receiving the call on Friday morning, we had the road cleared by 6:30pm on Saturday, just 35 hours later!

Here are some pictures of the Waitohi culvert work we’ve been doing in Picton. These structures had degraded in the tidal zone since being built in the 1960s, so we’ve exposed and replaced the lid sections to extend their life, as well as upgrading services and trafficked areas. Once complete, the area will have a new steel-fabricated walkway and seating area, allowing people to enjoy the marine lookout.

A big thanks to our Simcox team and subcontractors who have come together to produce a quality build.

Our construction & traffic teams have been working in a pretty spectacular location at Ōkiwi Bay over the last month, working to construct a MSE (Mechanically Stabilised Earth) wall which was completed last week. Preparations for reinstating the road have been undertaken and a new site rail has been installed.

Last month we had Colin from Driving Force come in to run vehicle recovery training sessions. These sessions were very practical, with plenty of time for the team to practice. While we hope never to need to use these skills, it’s important our teams have the opportunity to brush up on their knowledge to safely recover vehicles from a variety of terrains when needed.
