Can your roof really become colder than the air around it?

It sounds unlikely, but on a clear night it absolutely can.

This naturally occurring phenomenon is called "night sky radiation", and it's one of the lesser-known causes of condensation within roof spaces. It's also a great example of why not every damp patch points to a leaking roof.
