We’re proud to share that Leighs Construction has been named Prime Contractor of the Year at the Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry, announced at Parliament on Monday.

This award recognises our work as part of the team constructing Project Anvil at Burnham, delivering critical infrastructure in support of the New Zealand Defence Force (tag).

This achievement reflects the commitment, skill and teamwork of so many people. Thank you to everyone across Leighs, our project partners, consultants and suppliers who contributed to a safe, high‑quality and successful project.
We also acknowledge the leadership, clarity and vision of NZDF, and the strength of collaboration that underpinned this outcome. It has been a privilege to be part of this work.

A great recognition for Liam on our Canterbury Museum team.

Site Supervisor Liam Anderson has been recognised with a Pride, Passion, and Excellence (PPE) Award for his strong planning, attention to detail, and the way he supports the team to deliver work smoothly on site.

👉 Climbing the Sky Tower in full firefighting gear

Leighs Quantity Surveyor Dan Aresti will be taking on the Sky Tower Stair Challenge later this year, climbing all the way to the top of the Sky Tower in full firefighting kit.

Dan volunteers with the brigade through Fire and Emergency NZ . He joined after seeing the Port Hills fire get closer and closer to the Governors Bay community and wanting to be able to help when it mattered.

The challenge involves climbing more than 1,100 stairs while carrying around 25kg of gear. Dan’s goal for his first attempt is under 11 minutes.

The event raises funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

Burnham team recognised with NZDF safety award!

Project Anvil at Burnham Military Camp has been recognised by the New Zealand Defence Force Directorate of Safety as the Best Significant Safety Initiative for 2025.

The award highlights the strong focus on safety from the Leighs team throughout the project. NZDF also recognised the contribution of Sara Longhurst and the wider team in helping deliver the project safely within a live operational military camp.

🎉 10 years at Leighs | Jacyn Arthur

Jacyn Arthur is celebrating 10 years with Leighs.

Joining in 2016, Jacyn spent much of his time in Auckland working on projects such as Smales Farm, Mt Eden Prison, Douglas Pharmaceuticals, Lake Road Apartments and the Gilgit Wing at Allevia Hospital. These days, he can be found in New Plymouth, part of the team delivering the New East Wing Building at Taranaki Base Hospital.

Jacyn is known for his reliability, strong workmanship and calm, steady approach on site. He takes responsibility seriously and always delivers quality work.

Well done Jacyn and thanks for the commitment over the past decade.
