Cladding does more than just define how a home looks — it plays a big role in how it performs.

This system uses a lightweight AAC (Hebel) panel, fixed directly to the wall and finished with plaster.

Unlike typical cavity systems, it creates a closed layer — meaning no airflow behind the cladding.

That’s important, because it eliminates “windwash” — where cold air moves through the wall and reduces performance.

The panel is also breathable, allowing any moisture to escape, helping keep the structure dry.

It’s been used for decades across Australia and New Zealand, and while the insulation value itself is low, its real strength is stopping unwanted air movement.

Another example of how small details can make a big difference.

This layer might be hidden… but it plays a critical role in how your home performs.

A vapour barrier stops moisture from moving into the wall — preventing condensation before it can form.

That means no damp insulation, no mould risk, and a structure that stays dry year-round.

It’s one of the key details behind a healthy, high-performing home.

These windows are designed to do more than just look good.

Triple glazing improves performance, while the inward-opening design makes cleaning simple.

Five separate seals create a tight closure — keeping cold air out and reducing outside noise.

And here’s something most people don’t expect…

In a high-performing home, condensation forms on the outside of the glass — not the inside.

It’s a small detail that says a lot about how well a home is working.

What if you could actually *see* where your home is losing heat?

In this video, we’re using a FLIR thermal camera to reveal what’s really happening inside the walls.

Cold spots show up instantly. Timber framing becomes visible as thermal bridges. And you can clearly see the difference between insulated areas and places where heat is escaping.

It’s especially useful around windows, doors, and floors — where drafts often go unnoticed.

With around a 10° temperature difference, air leaks become easy to spot.

It’s a powerful way to understand how a home is really performing.

We’re sharing more short videos like this to break it all down.

Big sliding doors look great… but how do they actually perform?

In this video, we’re looking at a lift-and-glide sliding door system — large, triple-glazed, and surprisingly easy to use despite its size.

It can even lock in place anywhere along the track.

But here’s the trade-off…

Unlike hinged doors, sliding systems don’t seal into a rebate — which means they’re not as airtight. During blower door testing, this is exactly where we often see air leakage.

It’s a great example of how design choices impact performance.

We’re breaking down more of these details in short videos like this.

When you are the architect and the builder there is nowhere to hide.

Most homes in New Zealand have windows installed to the minimum building code.

But what does that actually mean for performance?

In this video, we look at a simple detail that makes a big difference — where the window sits in the wall.

When windows are installed in the cavity (the standard approach), the thermal break isn’t working where it should. It’s a detail that often gets overlooked, but it directly impacts how the home performs.

When we follow international best practice, the window is positioned within the insulation layer instead. You’ll notice the difference straight away — a deeper recess — but more importantly, it allows the window to do its job properly.

It’s one small decision that plays a big role in comfort, efficiency, and long-term performance.

We’re putting together a series of short videos like this, breaking down the details that shape a better home.

It’s only the start of autumn… yet many households are already thinking ahead to winter.

Not because it’s cold yet, but because they know what’s coming.

Higher heating use.
Less consistent indoor temperatures.
The seasonal effort of trying to stay warm.

In a well-designed Energy Efficient Home, that preparation isn’t necessary.

With better insulation, airtight construction, and thoughtful design, comfort is built in - reducing the need to brace for the colder months.

When a home performs properly, autumn doesn’t come with worry.

It simply transitions into winter, comfortably.

A high-performing home is built on more than insulation alone.

Everyday living naturally generates moisture - from showers and cooking to drying clothes and even breathing. Without controlled ventilation, that moisture can become trapped within the home, affecting indoor air quality and long-term durability.

The 5 Principles of a Healthy Home work together to manage temperature, airflow, and humidity as one complete system - ensuring moisture is properly controlled, not simply contained.

If you’re planning to build, speak with our sales team to learn how these principles create healthier, more resilient homes.

Affordability is more than the build price.

It’s about what your home costs to run, maintain, and live in over the next 20–30 years.

Energy Efficient Homes are designed to reduce ongoing expenses through lower energy use, durable materials, and smarter performance from day one - helping you avoid unnecessary costs long after construction is complete.
