A new chapter for our draughting team 👏

We’re delighted to announce Damian’s promotion to Draughting Manager, taking over the role from Graham. Having worked together for 20+ years, there’s a lot of shared history, knowledge and experience between these two. Graham has played a significant role in shaping our draughting team, and Damian’s appointment marks the next stage in that journey as we look to the future.

Congratulations Damian on a well-earned leadership role, and thank you Graham for everything you have brought, and continue to bring to the team. The two marked the occasion over lunch, and naturally, this was the photo. 📸

After more than five years of planning, design and construction, the new Latimer Church at Rosebank has officially opened its doors 👏🏻🎉

Last week, Matthew and James represented Structex at the commissioning service, marking the completion of a project that has been quite a journey.

We’ve shared plenty of progress along the way, from foundations and framing through to those distinctive architectural curves taking shape. Seeing the finished building full of people was a pretty special way to bring the project to a close.

Congratulations to the Latimer Church family and everyone involved in bringing this project to life. We’re proud to have played our part.

Fantastic to see the Potius floor panels going in so smoothly at the Morrison Medical building in Whakatū (Nelson) yesterday. Structex is part of the consultant team on this project - it's exciting to see innovative NZ-made timber systems being used and the project continuing to take shape on site.

This week marked our final construction monitoring visit for the new Latimer Church at Rosebank ✔️

While there is still some finishing work to be completed, it was rewarding to see the project close to the point where the congregation can begin making the space their own 👏🏻

The architectural curves on the drawings are now fully realised, creating a striking and welcoming building. One of the most meaningful details is the incorporation of elements from the original church, including the historic doors and memorial panels, which have been carefully preserved and integrated into the new building.

Projects like this are about more than creating a new structure. They are about carrying history, memories and community connections forward into the future.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life. We look forward to seeing the church open its doors to the community 🎉🎉

📍 Annual zipline inspection, Kaikōura.

Some projects require hard hats, harnesses, and the ability to focus while surrounded by views that belong on a postcard. Tough gig, Graham 😆

This week's annual inspection at Kaikōura included snow-capped mountains, native bush, turquoise coastline, and a reminder that not all structural inspections happen on a building site.

Keeping adventure safe, one zipline at a time. ✅

It's always rewarding to see a project we've helped bring to life reach a new chapter 🎉

This remarkable high-country retreat at Lake Tekapo has been listed for sale, showcasing not only outstanding architecture by Charlie Nott, but also the collaborative effort that went into delivering a home capable of withstanding the demanding alpine environment.

Structex provided the structural engineering for the project, which was designed for extreme wind and snow loading conditions. The home was constructed in three sections before being transported to site and connected to new foundations, helping improve quality control and reduce construction challenges in a remote location.

The result is a striking home that sits comfortably within the landscape while meeting the challenges of one of New Zealand's most spectacular environments.

Sometimes it's standing in front of a 150-year-old wall asking, "How on earth did they build this?" Add in a dose of contamination, a few unexpected discoveries and you've got a project that's equal parts engineering and detective work 🕵🏻

Not your average day at the office ... and that's exactly why we love it.

A slightly belated welcome to James McKellar, who joined the Structex whānau in June. After a flying start with the team, and a brief tropical escape to Fiji, we're delighted to officially introduce him.

Joining us as a Senior Engineering Technician, with more than 20 years of industry experience, and a career spanning marine design, structural drafting, and civil engineering. We're delighted to have James on board and look forward to the expertise he brings to our team and projects.

💡 What does meaningful change in engineering look like?

Last week, Emily joined industry leaders from across Aotearoa at the AWEC Symposium in Auckland to explore that very question.

The conversations centred on confidence, leadership, allyship, and creating workplaces where women can thrive. From challenging self-doubt and advocating for flexible work, to embracing practices such as Maramataka to connect with our natural rhythms, the message was clear: meaningful change happens when we support one another and continue pushing for equal rights, opportunities, and expectations.
