Opuha Water Limited recently commissioned a new low-level outlet at Opuha Dam, one of the most significant safety upgrades made to the dam since it was built. We're proud to have played a part in that commissioning, using our clamp-on flow meter to help the project team confirm actual flow rates through the new valve across a range of opening positions, including with the dam's hydro turbine running at the same time.

Opuha Water Limited just commissioned an $8 million low-level outlet valve, one of the most significant safety upgrades since the dam was built. Dam history, what the upgrade does, and how our clamp-on flow meter supported the commissioning.

There are few professions that demand as much from a person as farming. It's not just a job, it's a lifestyle. It doesn't stop at 5pm, it doesn't take weekends off, and it certainly doesn't wait for you to feel ready.

Why farming carries a heavier mental load than most jobs, the signs to watch for in yourself and others, the real roadblock to asking for help, and where to turn. You are not alone.

In September 2016, Havelock North's drinking water system failed. Around 5,500 people became ill after consuming contaminated water, making it New Zealand's largest recorded drinking water outbreak. It became the catalyst for a fundamental rethink of how municipal drinking water should be managed.

Havelock North changed how New Zealand thinks about water. Eight years later, the shift from trust to verification is shaping everything municipal water authorities do. How testing and monitoring now sit at the heart of every system, from bore to tap.

Not the New Year kind. Resolution, in the everyday sense, is how finely you can see something. And like trust, it's one of those ideas we handle constantly without ever thinking about it, until the moment the detail we needed turns out not to be there.

https://www.nzflow.co.nz/blog-2026-07-19-resolution-in-flow-metering.html

Resolution decides how much detail you see, in life and in a flow meter. What it means for pulse outputs, totalisers, and 15-minute data, and why a high resolution reading can still be wrong.

Every day we hand over trust without thinking about it. We trust the mechanic actually checked the brakes, the till charged what the shelf said, the agency publishing the official numbers didn't fudge them. Water metering asks for exactly the same leap of faith, except what shows up on that little screen might set your council rates, decide whether you're in breach of a resource consent, or feed into decisions about the water coming out of your own tap.

Flow meters run on trust as much as electronics. What quality instruments, scheduled verification, and an accountable service provider actually mean for the number feeding your bill, your council, and your drinking water.

Four of the major electromagnetic flow meter manufacturers, Krohne, Endress+Hauser, ABB, and Siemens, have all put out genuinely significant news recently. Rather than cover them one at a time, here's all four side by side: what's actually new, what it replaces, and whether it plays nicely with meters you might already have on site.

A deep dive into the latest electromagnetic flow meter releases from the four major manufacturers, what each one replaces, whether it retrofits onto existing sensors, and a quick-reference comparison table.

These three words get used almost interchangeably, and we hear all three thrown around for what's often the same job. They're not the same thing though, and the difference actually matters, both for understanding what a certificate is really telling you, and for knowing what to ask for in the first place.

Three terms that get used interchangeably but mean genuinely different things. What each one actually involves, when you need which, and why NZ Flow Group offers verification and validation but not calibration.

Genuinely had to check the calendar this morning. Friday was Matariki, the country had the day off, and somewhere between the long weekend and an early alarm to watch the football, the days have completely lost their shape. Worth it though.

A Matariki long weekend, another nail-biting England World Cup win, and why a couple of extra days off matter more than they get credit for.

Wishing you all a "Happy Matariki" weekend. :)
