Mathematics is often overlooked as a subject of beauty and imagination, with many people viewing it as boring, irrelevant, and downright unpleasant. However, by using craft as a medium, we introduce adults and children alike to a new and non-threatening way of engaging with mathematics. Our aim is to show young and old alike the fun, creativity, and beauty in mathematics through the medium of craf
t, and to demonstrate just how much mathematics there is in craft. By doing all of this, we help people to experience what it means to think like a mathematician. Since the inaugural Maths Craft Festival at the Auckland Museum in 2016, Maths Craft have run and participated in events around the country, introducing thousands of people to the wonders of mathematics. So join us to knit a mathematical knot, crochet a Mรถbius strip, fold an origami tetrahedron, or colour a Latin square, and experience mathematics in a whole new way. Maths Craft is a non-profit initiative run by academics who are passionate about engaging the public with mathematics through craft.
