Future Thinking with Upper Manuherikia Young Farmers.
Walking through the doors of the Lauder Hotel on Wednesday night, greeted by a roaring fire and warm local hellos, we knew we were in for a great evening.

A room full of Young Farmers with plenty of great questions about the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project. We chatted about jobs, the environment, mine life, and what the project could mean for local communities. The discussion was thoughtful, constructive, and refreshingly focused on the future.

A big thank you to the Upper Manuherikia Young Farmers for the opportunity, and to the Lauder Hotel for the warm hospitality.

1,400 New Zealanders were asked about mining. The results are worth reading.
A New Zealand Minerals Council / Curia poll shows strong public support for mining's role in New Zealand's future. It tracks with what we've been hearing across Central Otago.
People care about the environment. They also care about jobs, regional investment, and economic opportunity. Those things aren't in conflict.
We've been having those conversations for two years. This poll shows we're not alone.

Southland farm worker’s son.
Could’ve spent 30 years shearing sheep.
Instead, Mark Mitchell ended up running mine geology and engineering teams across Africa and the Philippines and now he’s back helping train young locals here in Central Otago.
Bloody good story. Bloody good bloke.

Honestly felt more like a party than a project drop-in.
Packed out at Gentle Annie’s on Monday night with heaps of laughs and a room full of locals wanting to properly understand the project beyond the headlines.

We’ve also been listening to your feedback, and many people would like more of a presentation-style format, so we’re looking to roll that out at upcoming sessions over the next few weeks.

In meantime, next drop in session | Lake Hāwea Community Centre on Monday 25 May | 5pm–6pm

Not every part of a mining project looks like mining.
Before any main works are underway, Santana Site Manager Regan Chamberlain and the crew are already rehabilitating completed areas along the project entrance corridor, reseeding paddocks, reinstating fencing, rolling coconut matting and preparing long-term habitat areas.
Small details maybe. But they say a lot about how a site is managed from day one.

Long before a mine is built, there are years of engineering, planning and problem-solving happening behind the scenes.
And a lot of that work is being done by locals.
This is Central Otago engineer Josh Cowan talking about the infrastructure and thinking that sits underneath the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project, and what it actually takes to build something at this scale.

Another major milestone this week for the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project, with the Overseas Investment Office granting consent for key land purchases linked to the proposed mine.
The decision followed extensive scrutiny and reflects the scale of the economic benefits the project could deliver, jobs, regional investment, exports and long-term growth for Central Otago.
And as local fencing contractor Reuben Connelly from Precise Fencing explains, that confidence is already starting to flow through the region.

Vicki Blakeborough grew up in Cromwell. Now she's helping build the team behind what could be New Zealand's most significant gold project in 40 years.

As our People and Culture Manager, Vicki's focus is pretty simple: find great people, treat them well, and make Central Otago the kind of place skilled workers want to come back to or never leave.

"This region has incredible people. My job is making sure they get first shot at what's coming."

Over the next few weeks we'll introduce more of the team behind the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project. Stay tuned.

A gold mine isn’t just about gold.
It’s a story of people - working together, bringing their own skills and experience to meet the challenges along the way.
Health and safety. Environment. Geology and mine engineering. Metallurgy. Equipment operation and maintenance. Commercial and community engagement. All of it working in balance to deliver an outcome we can be proud of.

“A project like this is never just one discipline,” says General Manager Paul Miles. “It’s about how all those parts come together safely, responsibly, and with a team that knows what they’re doing.”

We hope you are enjoying our meet the team videos, more to follow over coming weeks.
