Seven years in the making. One important step forward. ๐ฑ
Last week, we gathered for a Karakia (opening blessing) and turned the first sod at 77 Newcombe Road, marking the beginning of Stevenson's future sand resource for the Waikato.
After years of planning, consenting, and perseverance, it was rewarding to see this project move from concept to reality.
The site is expected to provide around 25 years of concrete sand, helping support the homes, roads, schools, and infrastructure our growing communities rely on across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
With high-quality sand resources becoming increasingly scarce, this milestone is about more than opening a new quarry.
It's about securing a critical resource for the future and ensuring our region has the materials needed to keep building and growing.
Thank you to Ngฤti Koroki Kahukura, Ngฤti Hauฤ, our neighbours, landowners, council representatives, and the Stevenson and Fulton Hogan teams who joined us to mark this significant milestone.
