Seven years in the making. One important step forward. 🌱

Last week, we gathered for a Karakia (opening blessing) and turned the first sod at 77 Newcombe Road, marking the beginning of Stevenson's future sand resource for the Waikato.
After years of planning, consenting, and perseverance, it was rewarding to see this project move from concept to reality.
The site is expected to provide around 25 years of concrete sand, helping support the homes, roads, schools, and infrastructure our growing communities rely on across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
With high-quality sand resources becoming increasingly scarce, this milestone is about more than opening a new quarry.
It's about securing a critical resource for the future and ensuring our region has the materials needed to keep building and growing.
Thank you to Ngāti Koroki Kahukura, Ngāti Hauā, our neighbours, landowners, council representatives, and the Stevenson and Fulton Hogan teams who joined us to mark this significant milestone.

🚀 Curiosity grows fastest when learning leaves the classroom.

Last Wednesday, students from Redhill School visited Drury Quarry as part of the AQA Rock Our Future School Competition. 👷‍♂️ 👷‍♀️

A useful lesson from visits like these is that context makes learning stick. When students can connect what they learn at school to real places and real work, they gain a much deeper understanding of how the world around them operates.

From seeing the scale of the quarry 🚜 to learning where the materials used in roads and buildings come from 🛣️🏗️, the visit helped bring science and infrastructure to life. 🔬

The questions, observations, and enthusiasm from the students showed the power of hands-on learning. 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

One of the most useful ideas behind Matariki is its balance of looking back before looking forward.
Traditionally, Matariki is a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate what we have today, and then set intentions for the year ahead.
Many of us do the opposite. We rush into goals, plans, and resolutions without taking time to reflect on what we've learned.

Men & Women in Pink 🎀💗

Last Friday, the Stevenson Drury Quarry team came together in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation at our 2026 Pink Ribbon Breakfast.
From home baking and sweet treats to a fun quiz and prizes, the morning was filled with generosity, learning, and a whole lot of pink spirit! A big thank you to Melanie, Anje, and Sharleen for organising such a meaningful event.
Breast cancer impacts thousands of New Zealanders every year and for many of us, it hits close to home through friends, whānau, and colleagues.
💗 Thanks to everyone who donated and took part, we raised over $850 to help fund vital services including mobile screening, education, and support for those affected.
So proud to see our team come together for such an important cause.
