The 1937 A&G Price Type E locomotive marked a step forward in design, built tough for the Taupo Totara Timber Co. With Heisler-style trucks, piston valves, and a higher-pressure boiler, it was engineered for more power and better performance in rugged conditions.
It worked hard for over two decades, first in the timber industry and later with the Public Works Department, before retiring in 1958. At 26 feet long and weighing 28.5 tonnes, it’s a solid reminder of how A&G Price has always pushed for practical innovation in rail engineering.
Proud to look back on this legacy of smart design and dependable machines.
