We were thrilled to host a group from Chatsford Retirement Village at the workshop yesterday! 🚂

Getting to show off Gracie in steam was a real treat - nothing beats the sound and sight of a traction engine doing its thing. Gracie belongs to Nathan, one of the team, who's been working tirelessly to get her back to her former glory. We also took the group round the workshop to see the variety of work currently on the go.

A special mention to the fitter/turners and boilermakers in the group - it meant a lot showing them around the workshop and also Olga, one of our old lathes from 1968 that's still going strong today. Always great swapping stories with people who know the trade inside and out.

Thanks for coming along, we loved having you! 🙌

🎉 Huge congratulations to Keagan on achieving his New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Trade) – General Engineering, Level 4! 👏🔧

Keagan is currently part of the crew working hard down in Milford on one of our projects and won’t be back in the workshop until after August. But this accomplishment was far too big to wait that long to celebrate!

So, we did things a little differently. On my behalf, Age took Keagan and the Milford Team out for breakfast and surprised him with the presentation of his certificate. 🥓☕🏆

We’re incredibly proud of the hard work, commitment, and dedication Keagan has shown throughout his apprenticeship journey. Well done — a fantastic achievement and very well deserved! 👌

Winter Works – Year Two in a World Heritage Site

We’re back for our second season of Winter Works in one of the most special places on earth. 💕
A world heritage site that our team respects deeply every single day we work here.

Last year, we battled the weather ⛈️ with the pontoons still in the water. This year, we’re stepping it up another notch. 💪

With the support of Pinnacle Diving Services🤿 and Kaharoa Marine Services, we’ve pulled the first of three pontoons completely out of the water and have created a mobile slipway system so the team can work safely and dry under cover.

What a mission already — but finding solutions runs through this company.

The outcome?
✔️ Safer and drier working conditions for the crew
✔️ Less weather disruption
✔️ Greater efficiency
✔️ The project keeps moving forward
✔️ An epic result for the customer

Proud of the crew for the innovation, effort, and respect they continue to show in an environment like this.

🚧💪 When a community in the heart of a National Park lost their entire water supply on Wednesday night, Site Weld answered the call.

From the moment the call came in, the Site Weld crew mobilised from Dunedin and were on the road to the remote site. Within just two days, water was flowing back into the community.

Nathan, Gaspar and Marco got stuck straight in on an extremely challenging emergency repair deep in rugged terrain. The damaged pipeline sat around 300 metres up the hill — accessible only by linked ladders and steep bush tracks.

The old water pipe had simply reached the end of its life, it just couldn't wait for the new replacement pipe and the team worked tirelessly in harsh conditions to carry out emergency repairs and restore the town’s water supply.

Another example of the Site Weld team getting the job done when it matters most. 👊

🚜✨ Meet “Gracie” ✨🚜

Built in 1925 by Aveling & Porter in England, Gracie is an incredible piece of engineering history — and a passion project that Site Weld’s own Nathan will be pouring his heart into restoring.

We’re incredibly privileged to be able to offer up workshop space, machinery, and a helping hand to support the restoration of this beautiful old girl. Seeing nearly 100 years of engineering history having a few repairs inside our workshop is something pretty special.

Can’t wait to see Gracie back out in full steam. 🚂💨
