The refurbishment and expansion of Whanganuiโs iconic Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery has taken out top honour at the Concrete NZ 2025 Concrete Construction Awards โ winning both the ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ and ๐๐
๐ฐ๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐.
Judges praised the projectโs outstanding use of concrete to deliver seismic strengthening without compromising the heritage character of the original 105-year-old building. The result? A world-class gallery that honours its past and safeguards its future โ a national benchmark in heritage restoration and resilience.
