Meet Jonathan, Managing Director at Spectrum!

Jonathan has been at Spectrum for more than 11 years, starting as Sales & Marketing Manager and eventually working his way up to Managing Director.

Though he’s now leading from the front, Jonathan’s still involved in the day to day, supporting the sales team with quotes, contracts and more.

“We really try to lead the market and product design, creating modular cost effective systems that look really amazing. Designs that look clean from the outside view, as well as easy for us to install, which in turn makes it more cost effective for the client.”

Jonathan’s favourite part of his job is seeing his staff succeed.

“My job is enabling everyone within our business to do their jobs really well - to make sure they’re being their best selves and achieving what they want to achieve.”

Outside of work, chances are you’ll find Jonathan on the green or in his garden.

“I love playing golf, and I always like to keep busy around the house, doing DIY and working in the garden.”

While he likes his healthy sandwiches, from time to time he can be found at the local bakery. Jonathan said nothing beats a classic steak and cheese pie! 🥧

What does high density suburban living look like in a community like Point Chev, Auckland?

Ockham Residential's latest twin developments, Toi and Whetū, preserve the heritage and design of the established suburb, while providing for the future with intelligent designs and floor plans.

Spectrum was pleased to contribute to both builds across a number of products and applications, including our Seamless balustrades, Seamless screens, interior stair balustrades and landscape handrails, powder coated to echo the respective brick colour schemes.

Consideration was given to the materials implemented into the build - ensuring these are built to last against the elements and coastal location.

Our clients often approach us with multiple options for facades and design elements for their commercial build, and we always say the same thing: aluminium rules supreme.

Where wood, steel or plastic require maintenance, upkeep or regular replacing, aluminium facades can typically last between 30 and 50 years, with high-quality, well-maintained systems going even further.

Aluminium is naturally corrosion resistant and doesn’t experience as much fade or deterioration by UV rays as some other materials.

That’s why, nearly 50 years on, many of our original aluminium products still look great 🤩

Over half a century of business, we’ve collaborated with hundreds of commercial partners to create and implement striking design elements to add character and personality to their builds.

From louvres, balustrades, façades and more, we can do it all.

In our latest feature in EBOSS, we chat about a recently completed project for the Spectrum team, which featured a great range of Spectrum products that come together coherently in the final design in this Kainga Ora build.

The client’s choice to use Spectrum’s ballustrading, louvres, window shrouds and more support the aim of offering well-made, durable housing utilising locally-made building materials and components.

Meet Kavish, one of the people who makes the magic happen at Spectrum!

Kavish has been part of the Spectrum team for three years as a drafter and project coordinator.

Kavish moved to New Zealand from South Africa, having set his eyes on greener pastures after Covid. His experience in mechanical drafting made him a lock-in for us.

As a draftsman, he works alongside our project managers, helping to bring architectural drawings to life by integrating our products.

“Providing a clear understanding of our products is imperative for our project managers to get a clear understanding of how the product is going to look and what’s needed to go from design to implementation.”

Our drafts team are very much the beating heart and soul of Spectrum, working with our project managers, estimators, fabrication staff and our installers to ensure projects continue to meet time and budget constraints.

Walking the fine line between ordering too few or too many materials, accuracy is critical for our drafts team!

“In the drawing department, nothing is more important than following the building code, because as much as our products are aesthetically pleasing, its more important they’re safe and secured.

As is tradition with the Spectrum team, Kavish also frequently makes a pilgrimage to the local bakeries around Te Rapa.

“I love Te Rapa Bakery. When I go there, I have to get a butter chicken pie – they’re the bomb.”

Built by AP Construction and featuring our Seamless Fin balustrades, woodgrain powder-coated Soho louvres and custom window shrouds, they blend modern living with an industrial aesthetic.
