To impact, inform and inspire higher academic achievement and career aspirations in Science/STEM pathways through connection to scientists, industry experts, and trades sector. The Kudos Science Trust - home of the prestigious "Kudos Awards” is also home of SCIENCE SPINNERS. Science Spinners is the Trust’s Education and outreach arm, to build, support and empower our next generation of scientists
and problem solvers. Our first programmes were established in 2016 with the aim of opening up the exciting world of Science (STEM) for our low decile schools focussing on our Māori & Pasifika and rural students from the Waikato region. Science Spinners connects world class scientists, industry professionals and businesses to high school students through hands-on science engagement activities, to better inform where science/STEM applies in the real world, while also shining a light on some of the rewarding and exciting career potential Science & STEM can lead to! We also provide opportunity for internships and scholarships helping to establish a pipeline for our rangatahi to pathway to higher education aspirations or to the start of a rewarding career in STEM. In 2016 we established our Distinguished Science Student recognition programme recognising the outstanding academic achievements of Waikato science students on the world stage. The programme help to further their opportunities and links them to the Kudos network of scientists, industry and tertiary providers. Science Spinners will be launching other Science (STEM) programmes in the coming year so keep an eye out! All our programmes are free and are only possible because of the generous support from our partners and sponsors, local Science industry & businesses, our CRIs and tertiary institutes who contribute to the success and sustainability of the region's future investment in science talent.
