From work experience to a place on the team!

Over the past two terms, a group of Year 13 students from Hastings Boys’ High School has spent each Tuesday at Tumu Timbers through the school’s Pathway programme, gaining hands-on experience in our factory.

Alongside this, our Operations Trainer, Russell Ede, provided weekly classroom training during Term 3, helping the students understand the timber industry and the products they were working with.

We’re excited to share that five students have been offered full-time, permanent roles as Timber Processing Workers.

We look forward to supporting them as they begin their careers with Tumu Timbers!

📣 HUGE NEWS FOR OUR 2026 SHOWING SECTION!

We are so excited to welcome TUMU Timbers on board as a major sponsor of our Showing Section!

Andrew and his team at TUMU Timbers have generously donated all the timber required to build our new jumps for the 2026 Show. ❤️

With Working Hunter and Hunter Jumping moving to Wednesday afternoon and two rings running at once, it quickly became clear we needed more big pony jumps!

With the help of our jump-building superstar Greg Best, known for a few other achievements but mainly our Working Hunter and Hunter Jumping saviour, we now have on the way: 4 large pony gates, 2 large pony brushes & 4 roll tops (pony & horse)

All being built from lovely, brand-new TUMU Timbers lumber!

Fingers crossed they’ll be ready for our practice day, but they will definitely be ready to make their debut at the 2026 Hawke’s Bay A&P Show.

The Hawkes Bay Magpies are back at McLean Park this Friday night, taking on Otago under the lights.

This Friday, the Magpies will take the field in a special match-day charity jersey in support of our friends at Mates4Life and the vital work they do in our community.

Kick-off is at 7.10pm, so round up the crew and get along to support the Bay and a great cause.

The 2026 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruit Grower of the Year competition has wrapped up, after two great days celebrating the talent coming through our region’s horticulture industry.

Tumu Timbers was excited to be part of one of the practical challenges again this year, hosting a workstation that put competitors’ speed and hands-on skills to the test. Each contestant was challenged to build a mini pallet in the quickest time, alongside a range of other practical and theoretical tasks across the competition.

Congratulations to Maddi Sheridan from T&G Global, who was named the 2026 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruitgrower of the Year. Well done also to Runner-Up Joseph Stenberg, and third equal placegetters Saffron Riley and William Horsefield.

A fun day filming a very important subject 🎥

Big shoutout to the very creative team at Indelible - Creative Studio, who made our Tumu Timbers health, safety and induction film shoot such a collaborative and enjoyable experience.

Health and safety is a serious subject, but we had a great time bringing it to life and involving so many of our Tumu Timbers team members along the way.

It might have been a cold and early start to the day, but a bit of sunshine and home-baked treats soon warmed us up!

A special thank you to our actors Allen, Blake and Reece...they were absolute rockstars 👏
