The 2026 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruit Grower of the Year competition has wrapped up, after two great days celebrating the talent coming through our region’s horticulture industry.

Tumu Timbers was excited to be part of one of the practical challenges again this year, hosting a workstation that put competitors’ speed and hands-on skills to the test. Each contestant was challenged to build a mini pallet in the quickest time, alongside a range of other practical and theoretical tasks across the competition.

Congratulations to Maddi Sheridan from T&G Global, who was named the 2026 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruitgrower of the Year. Well done also to Runner-Up Joseph Stenberg, and third equal placegetters Saffron Riley and William Horsefield.

A fun day filming a very important subject 🎥

Big shoutout to the very creative team at Indelible - Creative Studio, who made our Tumu Timbers health, safety and induction film shoot such a collaborative and enjoyable experience.

Health and safety is a serious subject, but we had a great time bringing it to life and involving so many of our Tumu Timbers team members along the way.

It might have been a cold and early start to the day, but a bit of sunshine and home-baked treats soon warmed us up!

A special thank you to our actors Allen, Blake and Reece...they were absolute rockstars 👏
