🏠 Tuesday Tip: A Builder’s Tip from Lyndsay

How’s the condition of your roof?

Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home — protecting everything underneath it and helping protect your biggest asset.

Here on the West Coast, our coastal environment can be tough on roofing iron and fixings. As your roof ages, iron can deteriorate or lift, fixings can fail, and small issues can develop into leaks and hidden damage.

When was the last time you checked your roof and roof cavity? Here’s what to look out for:

Lifting or damaged roofing iron
Popped nails or incorrectly installed screws
Rust, bubbling paint or deteriorating iron
Damaged flashings or roof penetrations around vents, pipes, chimneys or skylights
Water stains, damp patches or discoloured timber in the roof cavity
Mould or musty smells
Drips after heavy rain

Some problems are simple to repair, while others may mean your roof is nearing the end of its useful life. The key is to catch problems early and have them properly assessed and fixed by a professional.

If your roof has reached the end of its life, a new roof can protect your home, improve its condition and give you peace of mind for years to come.

🔨 Tuesday Tip: A Builder’s Tip from Lyndsay

One thing we often see in older West Coast homes is moisture getting behind shower linings.

If you’ve got a damaged shower, or have noticed swollen skirting boards, mould, lifting or popping shower linings, water-stained flooring, or soft spots around your shower — don’t ignore them.

Sometimes it’s as simple as replacing worn seals or re-sealing. Other times, hidden water damage means repairs are needed before a new shower can be installed.

No one wants to hear they need a new shower, but fixing the underlying problem properly gives you peace of mind and helps protect your home for years to come.
