The multimillion-dollar development is being carried out by local developer Evan Jones in two stages.
Two of the first six apartments to be
completed by the end of the year are now under construction.
Mr Braid said four more identical two-bedroom apartments would follow after that.
All will have their own lift access and a top-floor deck to enjoy uninterrupted views of the Tasman Sea.
The apartments follow the development of a retail strip along the Revell St side of the site, once home to the old Club Hotel and Commercial Flats.
A carpark and landscaping will separate the businesses from the new housing.
The construction firm is looking for more qualified carpenters to join the Beach St project, and others in the pipeline.
