A Different Approach to Cow Race Maintenance – Proven on Farm
We’re well aware this is a completely different approach to cow race maintenance, and we’d like to thank all the farmers who put it to use on their farms before Christmas.
The feedback we’ve received has been very encouraging. Despite the extremely dry conditions at the time of milling, all reports are that the races settled down nicely once the rain arrived, exactly as expected.
We’ve milled everything from:
*Rough, rocky races
*To races that were well looked after and full of fines, but badly eroded and packed down hard like concrete
In every case, the mill has done an outstanding job of making the best of what’s already there — bringing the fines back to the surface and leaving a smooth, even finish, often not unlike a sealed road.
On nearly every farm, we’ve ended up doing far more than originally planned, and on a few occasions, the entire farm. Some races needed additional fines, while others surprised us and milled up so well that we agreed to leave them as-is until next time.
The bottom line:
There is nothing else in New Zealand that comes close to this setup for quality of finish and ridiculously low cost per metre.

If I don’t think I can make it better, I won’t mill it.
