Whether it's having the skills to help someone struggling with their mental health, or having access to life-saving equipment in an emergency, the right support can make all the difference.

That's why we're proud to be continuing our partnership with Hato Hone St John for another three years, with a $210,000 investment in safer, healthier communities throughout the deep south!

Building on 12 years of working together, our renewed commitment will help:

💚 Deliver 11 FREE Mental Health First Aid courses each year in Southland, Otago, Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago.
💛 Review the 17 community AEDs we've previously donated, prioritising equipment renewals and improving their accessibility.

Once we're certain our existing AEDs are working as they should be, we'll be looking for new locations where we might be able to place AEDs in future ;)

For us, supporting the communities we serve is more than keeping the lights on. It's about helping people look after each other, too.

We know around 250+ of you are without power right now - as our planned outage for today is lasting much longer than we expected!

Our team has been out on Reservoir Road replacing conductor - the power lines - since 10am today.

Unfortunately they've encountered a few challenges which means your outage which was planned to finish at 4pm today will be lasting for a few more hours yet.

We're really sorry about the delays to getting your power back on!
Our teams are working as quickly as they can to finish up their mahi so your electricity supply is restored and more reliable than it was yesterday!

Thanks to all those who have contributed, we've raised over $6,200 for Heart Kids and Ray King will be shaving his beard next week. PowerNet has taken the lead in the national Heroes for Heart Kids team leaderboard for the highest total fundraised, so we're pretty proud of the efforts and the difference this will make for Southland families.

Our fundraiser remains open until 8 October, so it's not too late to contribute.

Work is continuing the Hokonui Line project, which involves building a 110kV overhead distribution line that will support Fonterra’s growing electricity needs on their Edendale site. Foundations for the 74 poles are in place, and we are about to start installing the power poles. This means you may see our crews and heavy vehicles around over the next few weeks and there will be some traffic management in place to keep everyone safe.

5-16 October – We will be installing poles on Old Dunedin Road and Downs Road South. There will be lane closures in place, so allow for possible short delays. Please also be aware of additional heavy truck movements.

16-19 October – Cuttance Road will be closed for pole installation.

19 October-6 November – We will be installing poles on private land, however there may be some delays and lane closures as we move poles to access points along Downs Road South and Homestead Road. There will also be heavy truck movements around this area.

Please note these dates are subject to change, due to weather conditions or other issues outside our control.

Congratulations to two of our apprentices, Caley Low and Ryan Fitzsimmons, who competed this week in the Master Electricians New Zealand Apprenticeship Challenge.

The event, held at Ascot Park Hotel, set apprentices from around the region a variety of electrical tasks throughout the day.

Caley and Ryan performed really well and enjoyed the opportunity to test and develop their skills.

The challenge has been held around the country and the top five scorers overall will head to the national competition being held on 12 November in Auckland.

Are you eligible for money off your power bill?

This spring, $11.7 million is being returned to eligible consumers through The Power Company Ltd’s annual price discount, with discounts appearing on September or October power bills.
To check if you’re eligible, look at one of your recent power bills and find your ICP number.

If it includes “TP” or “HE” near the end, you’re on The Power Company network and should receive the discount.

In Invercargill or Bluff? Some households are eligible and some aren’t - your ICP number is the easiest way to check.

Hey Parawa, Garston, and Kingston residents!
Unfortunately there's a broken line at Parawa - while we've managed to keep the lights on for now, we'll need to undertake urgent repairs on Wednesday, 30 September. Your power will be turned off between 11am and 2pm while we complete the work!

We've notified your retailers, who should let you know of the outage - but you can also check out all of the affected areas on our website - your outage reference number is 118053A.

Work is underway to relocate a power line in Makarewa. This means we will have crews on site over the next few weeks, working on the roadside along part of Flora Road East, Helena Road and Orion Road at various times.

To keep everyone safe, there will be some traffic management in place, with roads down to one lane so please pay extra attention and follow any traffic directions. Access will always be available, but you might want to allow additional time for travel.

The beard is going! So far, we've raised over $5,000 for Heart Kids and our legendary Field Manager (West) Ray King is saying goodbye to the beard he's been sporting for nearly 20 years.

We're not stopping there though. Together with our community, we think we can raise even more for Heart Kids, who provide valuable support to children with heart conditions and their families.

Otautau residents - We need to carry out some urgent repair work to replace a broken cross-arm on a pole. Our team will be doing this tonight, so we need to turn your power off from 5.30pm. The work is expected to take around two hours.

While the power outage may not impact everybody, it will affect a large proportion of the town, so it might be time to drag out the board games and fire up the barbecue.

We know outages are inconvenient, but they are essential to repair damage and keep everyone safe. Thank you for your patience.
