🌞There’s a real buzz around solar power right now, and we love seeing our community embrace renewable energy. To support that growth, PowerNet has raised the export capacity limit to 10kW and introduced a new congestion map to help you plan your solar setup.

Check out the map to see your local network status and find out if you’re eligible for fast track approval. It’s all about making the process smoother and helping more people benefit from clean energy.

An exciting day at the Girls in Trade event hosted by Great South. What a fabulous opportunity to showcase the electricity industry as an option for our young women. Inspirational stories, bomb suits and bucket truck adventures were all part of this great event. We're proud to support events like this.

Power is still out in West Invercargill after an accident, affecting businesses on lower Bond Street. Our crews are repairing a damaged high‑voltage line, and we expect power to be restored by 5 pm today.

For safety, please switch off all electrical equipment at the wall and treat all lines as live, as power may return without warning. We thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: Power is restored. Hopefully everybody can enjoy a coffee now. Thanks for your patience.

⚠️ Not the best start to a Friday morning, but we have an underground cable fault affecting West Invercargill, particularly the area around Bill Richardson Drive and parts of Bond Street, The team has been working on it since the early hours and hope to have power fully restored by 9.30am. Please treat all lines as live as power will come back on without further notice.

Take care and have a fabulous Friday 😀

A quick favour request for our community.
Massey University, Canary Innovation, and Earth Sciences New Zealand are running a short 10-minute anonymous survey about last year’s October wind event. They’re looking at how warnings were received and how people responded.
PowerNet is not involved in the study, but we think it’s valuable work and want to help get the word out. If you live in the Southern region and were affected, your experience can genuinely help improve future communication and preparedness.

🔌 Girls - are you keen to find out more about a career in the energy sector?

PowerNet, along with Connexis, will be hosting a Girls with Hi-Vis event at our Balclutha depot on Tuesday 23 June. This is an awesome, hands-on opportunity to explore potential careers.

If you're interested, check out the information on the website (https://connexis.org.nz/girls-with-hi-vis/) and talk to your school about getting registered. We'd love to see you there.

Hi Te Anau residents, we're got some work to do in your area and, to add an extra layer of security to your power supply in the meantime, we're transporting our mobile substation to Te Anau. This will provide additional backup to reduce the risk of power outages. It will likely be heading your way next Tuesday or Wednesday and then there will be some time to set it up. As we head into the chilly winter months, power outages aren't fun for anyone, so we're doing everything we can to reduce them. 😀
