BOOM πŸ’₯ It's already time for a ! Let's look at a windy challenge in the Remutaka Range with the Siberia Crossing Swing Bridge.

This 90-metre swing bridge was a significant project for the Edifice Structures team, especially because of the constant, high winds in the gully (the crossing is called "Siberia" for a reason...).

To build a stable structure that could withstand winds strong enough to push a train off its tracks, we installed eight pairs of cables running down to anchor points. This design was essential for the bridge's stability and safety.

Working with the Department of Conservation and structural engineer Ash Keyworth, we completed the swing bridge on time for its opening in January 2020 😎

For today's , we're looking back at the Hokitika Gorge Suspension Bridge. In June-August 2020, the Edifice Structures team worked with the Department of Conservation to build this 90m bridge, extending the walkway and offering stunning views.

This project was a real challenge. Located in one of New Zealand's wettest spots, all our gear had to be helicoptered in. We also had to adapt to a national COVID-19 lockdown that happened right in the middle of the project.

Despite these hurdles, we delivered. The final result is absolutely stunning, don't you think?

to the Pakowhai ki Otutaopuku Bridge in Ōpōtiki. Built in 2012 (time flies!), it's an 80-metre suspension bridge that has been created to connect the Motu Trail with the Dunes Trail.

The location presented a major challenge as every component had to withstand the harsh coastal environment. Our solution was to source, fabricate and construct the bridge with high-quality stainless steel components, including the main wires.

Working with Ōpōtiki District Council and the talented team at Frame Group Ltd, the Edifice Structures team delivered a high level of craftsmanship, completing the project on time and on budget!

πŸ“’ New Case Study Alert

We've released a new case study on our website for the Napier residential pedestrian access bridge that was completed a couple of month ago πŸ’₯

Working with Drainways Contracting Ltd, we have successfully replaced a pedestrian access bridge for a historic Napier villa.

The new bridge, featuring white-painted Glulam beams and posts, was pre-fabricated off-site by the Edifice Structures team to reduce disruption. With its new green/grey decking and anti-slip strips, the bridge now provides safe and durable access that complements the home's historic charm.

The new pedestrian bridge at the Staveley Ice Skating & Curling Rinks, known as the Shannon Crossing, is now complete! This bridge provides access from the car park to the rink, which is one of New Zealand's few natural ice skating locations. The bridge's glulam beam structure was prefabricated at our Levin plant before being lifted into place on-site.

It was a privilege to contribute to this community landmark. The Edifice Structures team is proud to support New Zealand's unique recreational spaces.

Always cool to look back at the start and finish of a big project... The 90-metre Kimi-ākau Suspension Bridge over the Shotover River near Queenstown was officially opened back in April this year.

Heli lifting towers and cables were the beginning of quite a journey. But it was all worthwhile when you see the stunning result!

πŸ“’ New Case Study Alert

We've just release a new case study on our website, showcasing our work on several pedestrian access structures in the Waitomo area for the of Conservation.

The Edifice Structures team worked on replacing the Blackwater Cavers Exit Bridge, the Ruakuri Caves Viewing Platform and the Mangapohue Bridge.

Our approach involved maximising off-site prefabrication and utilising helicopter lifts to minimise environmental impact in these protected reserves.
