We are 100% locally owned by the Electra Trust, for the benefit of all consumers connected to the Electra electricity network. Your locally owned company has distributed electricity to the Kapiti and Horowhenua region for more than 70 years. The Electricity Reform Act 1998 states that owners of a line network business cannot sell electricity and forced the separation of the two arms of energy supp

ly - the lines and the power itself. As a result Horowhenua Energy Ltd Directors retained the lines business and sold the supply arm including the meters. Horowhenua Energy Ltd has now changed it's name to Electra Ltd, the trading name of the company has been simplified to Electra and all shares continue to be held for customers connected to the network by the Electra Trust.

The Electra Ara Ki Te Mahi Future Engineers Scholarship is designed to help aspiring electrical engineers take their first step towards a career in the electricity industry.
Open to Year 13 students within Electra’s network region, from Paekākāriki to Foxton, the scholarship supports students planning to study an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering in 2026.

Electrical engineers play a vital role in designing, maintaining, and developing the networks that keep our communities powered. From supporting reliable electricity supply to helping shape a smarter, more resilient energy future, it’s a career with real impact.

Last evening, we welcomed a group of volunteer firefighters to Electra’s zone substations at Paraparaumu and Raumati. ⚡

The visit gave the team an opportunity to familiarise themselves with our network infrastructure, understand the specific hazards and challenges they may encounter, and learn more about what to expect if they ever need to respond to an incident at one of our substations.

Thanks to Ashnil from Electra who guided the visit and made sure everyone was safely briefed before entering the sites.

It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our relationships with our local emergency response teams and help ensure we’re better prepared to work together when it matters most.

We really appreciated the firefighters taking the time to visit, for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the evening.
