Unplanned and urgent repair work over the last several days has resulted in the shutdown of the thermal sludge dryer at the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant.
This may temporarily increase the level of odour in the community.
Here is the key information:
• A range of mechanical failures have occurred this week. These were repaired promptly but other mechanical issues occurred during repairs and have led to further breakdowns.
• The thermal sludge dryer has been operating at reduced capacity for several days.
• It is likely we will be transporting the wet sludge the dryer normally processes to landfill.
• There is an increased risk of odour; we’ve erected wind protections to mitigate odour when loading sludge onto delivery trucks.
