Intake Manifold Clean — 1VD LandCruiser 🔧

Another 1VD LandCruiser in the workshop for an intake manifold clean.

Over time, carbon and oil vapour can build up throughout the intake system, restricting airflow and affecting how the engine breathes.

Once stripped down, you can really see just how much build-up can accumulate, even at relatively low kilometres.

A thorough clean helps restore airflow and gives the engine the best chance of performing as it should. 🔧

If your 1VD is feeling sluggish, lacking power or simply hasn’t had the intake system checked for a while, it could be worth having a look.

Rising Oil Level? 🚨 Here’s What We Found

This week we had a Toyota Land Cruiser come into the workshop with a rising engine oil level complaint.

After carrying out a number of checks on the injector side of the fuel system, we couldn’t find any obvious fuel leaks in this area.

So, we made the decision to remove the fuel pump and have a closer look.

And this is what we found… 👀🔧

The leak wasn’t obvious with the pump installed, but once removed and pump turning building internal pressure, we found the front seal was allowing fuel past. The fuel was making its way into the engine oil, causing the oil level to rise.

Another example of why a rising oil level on a diesel should never be ignored.

Sometimes finding the fault means digging a little deeper. 🔧

Got a diesel problem or noticed your oil level is rising? Give us a call and we’ll help get to the bottom of it. 📞🔧

💨 DPF warning lights, lack of power 🔧

This one rolled into the workshop with a seriously soot blocked DPF. The owner had noticed a lack of power, warning lights on the dash, and the vehicle just wasn’t running like it should.

Our diagnostic process confirmed excessive soot loading and high differential pressure across the DPF. After carrying out the appropriate repair we’ve got it breathing properly again and back on the road.

A blocked DPF isn’t always a failed DPF. In many cases, the underlying cause needs to be identified and corrected before replacing expensive components.

⚠️ If your diesel vehicle is showing a DPF warning light, going into limp mode, or producing excessive smoke, don’t ignore it. Catching the problem early can often save you from an expensive DPF replacement.

🔧 Another successful Scania DC09 engine overhaul completed by our team! 🔧

What started as an assessment for an in-frame overhaul quickly revealed that a more extensive repair was needed. After partial disassembly and inspection, it became clear that an in frame rebuild wasn’t the best solution. To restore the engine to the highest standard, we removed it from the vehicle and carried out a complete overhaul. As the saying goes “If you’re going to do it, do it once and do it right.”

From engine removal through to machining, rebuilding, and reinstallation, every step was focused on delivering long term reliability, performance, and durability, getting our customer back on the road with confidence.

Scope of work included:

✅ Initial inspection and partial disassembly
✅ Assessment confirming an in frame overhaul was not viable
✅ Complete engine removal
✅ Full engine strip-down
✅ Engine block machining and preparation
✅ Replacement of worn internal components
✅ Cylinder head servicing
✅ New bearings, seals, and gaskets installed
✅ Fuel, lubrication, cooling, and turbocharger systems inspected, with components replaced where required
✅ Engine reassembly to manufacturer specifications
✅ Engine reinstallation
✅ Back into service

The entire overhaul was completed in-house by our experienced team, with the exception of the engine block machining and cylinder head servicing, which were entrusted to one of our specialist machining partners to ensure the highest level of precision and quality.

The result? A reliable, high performing Scania engine that’s ready for many more kilometres of dependable service while helping minimise downtime for our customer.

If your diesel engine needs anything from diagnostics and repairs to a complete overhaul, our team has the experience and equipment to get the job done right.

🌧️ Thinking about driving through floodwater? Your vehicle isn’t a jet boat. 🚙🌊

We get it—there’s always one bloke who reckons, “She’ll be right.” Sometimes she is… and sometimes she’s on the back of a tow truck.

We recently had a vehicle come into the workshop after it was driven through floodwater. The engine sucked in water, hydrolocked, and bent the connecting rods. One splash through a flooded road turned into a very expensive engine rebuild.

Here’s the thing—engines are designed to compress air, not water. Once water gets sucked into the engine, something has to give… and it’s usually your wallet.

Driving through floodwater can also mean:
💦 Water in the engine = 💸💸💸
⚡ Wet electronics = Warning lights galore.
🛞 Hidden potholes = Surprise suspension repairs.
🚛 Tow truck ride = Not the Uber you were hoping for.

If you can’t see the road, don’t be a hero. Turn around, find another route, and save yourself a world of pain.

Sure, your mate might get a good video of the bow wave… but he’ll probably disappear when it’s time to help pay the repair bill. 😂

Remember: The only thing that should be making waves is your boat not your daily driver.

We’d much rather see you for a service than because your engine decided to try drinking the river! 😅

📞 If you need a post-flood inspection or have concerns about your vehicle, get in touch with our team today.

🚗 Diesel Common Rail Injector Compression Leakage

A diesel common rail engine came into the workshop with a noticeable compression leak caused by failed injector sealing washers.

Symptoms included:
● Chuffing or hissing noise around the injectors
● Carbon build-up (“black death”) around the injector seats
● Exhaust fumes in the engine bay
● Reduced engine performance and poor fuel economy

Repair carried out:
✅ Removed injectors
✅ Cleaned and re-cut injector seats where required
✅ Replaced injector copper sealing washers and hold-down bolts (where applicable)
✅ Reinstalled injectors to manufacturer torque specifications
✅ Tested the engine to confirm the compression leak was eliminated

It’s worth noting that on some common rail diesel engines, the injectors are located under the valve cover. When an injector sealing washer fails on these engines, combustion gases and carbon can build up inside the valve cover, contaminating the engine oil, damaging injector seats, causing oil leaks and potentially leading to lubrication related failures.

Injector washer failure is a common issue that should be addressed as soon as symptoms appear. Early diagnosis and repair can save significant time and money while keeping your diesel engine running efficiently.
