There’s a certain warmth and atmosphere people often notice the moment they step into a timber home—natural texture, quiet comfort, and that “welcome home” feeling.

One client shared after living in their new Fraemohs home for around 9 months (through summer and into winter):

“I’ve hardly needed to light the fire despite several frosts… It stays warm all night, so we’re still lightly dressed in the morning and haven’t needed to put the heatpump on at all yet.”

They also noticed something many people are curious about:
“Despite everyone warning us it might be noisy and creaking, it’s a really quiet and peaceful house.”

And our favourite line:
“Even the birds seem to love it… they wander on in, thinking it’s an extension of the outside world!”

Choosing between a Full Local Build and a Kitset Supply?

For most clients, a full build is the preferred option — we manage the process end-to-end for a smooth, straightforward journey.

But for some projects, a kitset can be the perfect fit (especially when your location is remote, or you have the skills, trades, and resources to take the lead with your chosen builder).

Yes—our standard plans are a great place to start.

Think of them as a proven foundation, then we can tweak and develop the layout around your site, your must-haves, and your budget.

If you’ve got a section already (or one in mind), we’re happy to talk through what might work best.

Building in Golden Bay comes with a few practical planning points worth factoring in:

Local expertise: We use local Golden Bay trades wherever practical and possible.
Freight + lead times: Remote locations can mean a little extra for freight (and timing), especially for larger deliveries.
Access matters: Driveway steepness, turning space and site access can all influence logistics.

Considering a Golden Bay build? Tell us where you’re looking and we’ll talk through what to allow for.

Got a sloping section? It doesn’t automatically rule out building.

A slope can change what’s needed for:
• earthworks
• foundations
• access
• drainage
• overall budget

The key is understanding the site early, so the design (and costs) are planned from day one.

Thinking about building on a slope? Send us a message and we’ll talk through options.

Nelson–Tasman living has a rhythm of its own—sun on the deck, easy indoor-outdoor flow, and views that make you pause.

That’s why we design homes to:
- Catch the sun when it counts (and create shade when summer turns it on)
- Open up to outdoor living for slow mornings, long lunches, and family time outside
- Frame the views—coast, countryside, hills—without giving up comfort or privacy
- Handle changing conditions, from salty coastal winds to shifting rural weather, with smart siting and practical detailing

What matters most in your future home: sun, views, warmth, or outdoor living?

Solid Timber or Timbermode?

Here’s a simple guide to help you choose.
Solid Timber - Thick solid timber walls form both the structure and the interior finish.

A good option if you:
• Love the warmth and character of natural timber
• Want a distinctive Scandinavian-style feel
• Prefer timber to be a key design feature

Timbermode - A conventional timber-framed home with insulation, cladding and interior linings.

A good option if you:
• Want more flexibility with finishes and style
• Prefer a contemporary look
• Want a wide range of design options

Not sure which suits you? Send us your site, style and priorities, and we’ll talk you through the options.
