Big Congratulations to Jordan Lindbom! 🏀

A massive shoutout to our fantastic team member, Jordan Lindbom! Jordan hit the court for ABC Rhythm last night in the highly anticipated Nelson Club Basketball Men's Premier Grand Final at Saxton Stadium. Going head-to-head against the defending champions the Stoke Bears, Jordan and the ABC Rhythm squad capped off an amazing winter season with an incredible team performance on the region's biggest stage.

We are incredibly proud to have a Premier athlete on our team both inside the office and out on the court.

Way to go, Jordan! 🏆

A project we're incredibly proud to have been part of!

If you've seen the latest edition of the Business South Magazine , you may have spotted the article on the new W**e Research Centre in Blenheim—and our GeoSolutions NZ advert alongside it.

What the article doesn't show is the engineering that went into making the building possible.

The site presented some challenging ground conditions, with soft soils and potentially liquefiable sands beneath the proposed building. Working closely with the structural engineers at Engenium, we developed an innovative foundation solution that combined timber piling with a geogrid-reinforced raft foundation to provide the performance needed for this specialised research facility.

Projects like this are what we love—working collaboratively to solve complex problems and helping bring important facilities to life.

The new W**e Research Centre will play an important role in supporting Marlborough's world-leading w**e industry, helping researchers develop more resilient and sustainable growing systems for the future.

Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such an outstanding project. We're proud that GeoSolutions NZ could play a part.

Re-sharing this post now that the Granny Flat exemption is in place. Remember, the exemption may not apply if you're in a hazard zone, so it pays to check first!

With the new Granny Flat legislation just around the corner and the proposed exemptions for both building and resource consent, the big question is - do you still need a geotech report??

The attached document sets out the requirements for exemption from building consent per the proposed Granny Flat legislation. As shown (p2), you need to demonstrate to Council that you have sufficiently protected the building from the effects of any natural hazards to qualify for the exemption.

So if your property is in an area known by Council to be potentially at risk from a natural hazard, then yes, you'll need a geotech report. Talk to us at the early stages of planning to find out how much this might affect your project.

Thoroughly enjoyable morning exploring the latest section of the Whale Trail between Picton and Blenheim. This has been a great job to have been involved in, not only in terms of providing connectivity between communities, but also for all it's challenges. Wetland below, Kiwirail corridor, forestry above and plenty of slips and steep slopes to add to the mix.
Shout out to the Whale Trail Trust and especially to the awesome Vicki Nalder. Thank you so much for getting us involved. We've loved every minute. Working with Greg from Elite Excavations was a bonus!

We're often asked by clients what trees they can can plant on their sloping properties to improve site stability or what can be planted after a landslip to re-stabilise the ground.

We try to make them understand that while plants and trees can help, they can't keep a steep slope stable by themselves! You can certainly get landslips on well vegetated bush-clad slopes..!

Having said that, planting the right trees can definitely help and so we've prepared a short guide highlighting several species that we'd likely recommend in most circumstances to help improve site stability.

Please contact us if you'd like more site-specific recomendations, bearing in mind that we're not tree experts; just slope experts!
