A beautiful transformation of a classic Ponsonby villa, designed by Studio John Irving Architects and built by Evolution Builders.

Behind the traditional villa street frontage is a striking contemporary home, with a black steel and glass pavilion, expansive open-plan living and seamless connection to the private poolside entertaining areas.

A great example of old and new coming together — architectural detail, craftsmanship and considered living.

The structure is taking shape!! 🔨

With the framing now nearly complete you get a sense of spaces and scale inside the home. Temporary stairs will soon make way for the finish product. Site measures and shop drawings are underway for the exterior timber and aluminum joinery. Still very much a construction site however we are reaching the exciting stage when the details are starting to come to life.

Another from the archives, and another memorable Studio John Irving design brought to life by the Evolution Builders team.

This striking family home was designed around its outlook, light and privacy. Extensive covered verandahs, movable aluminium louvre screens and beautifully detailed cedar ceilings create a seamless connection between inside and out.

The material palette continues across the home, combining cedar, Eurotray, concrete and wide-plank oak, with some clever design details including a sheltered internal courtyard, sunken lounge and a robotic spa cover that transforms into usable deck space.

A great example of the thoughtful architectural detailing and craftsmanship we love being part of.

A look back at this stunning inner-city Westmere home, designed by Studio John Irving, built by the Evolution Builders team.

A highly spec’s 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom new build. Western red cedar cladding and screening give the exterior warmth and privacy while inside the full height, glazing, generous ceiling heights, and a beautiful palette of natural oak slate and wide-plank timber flooring create a home that felt both refined and relaxed.

We’ve had the pleasure of bringing a number of Studio John Irving designs to life over the years and this is a great example of architect and builder working collaboratively to deliver a beautiful home.

The scaffold is down... revealing this Herne Bay beauty.

This Herne Bay renovation is starting to reveal its character. Crisp white brick, the warmth of Abodo timber cladding, stunning joinery and a feature brick lattice screen are all coming together to create a timeless contemporary home.

Inspired by the surrounding Art Deco architecture, respecting its neighbourhood, while bringing a fresh, modern design interpretation.

Not far to go now - final glazing underway, landscaping, custom window shrouds and other the final finishing details are still to come.

Mozzie has completed his apprenticeship with Evolution Builders, and we couldn't be prouder to have him continue his journey with us as a qualified carpenter.

Making hay while the sun shines! ☀️🔨

With Auckland putting on stunning winter weather, our team has been making the most of the conditions with great progress at our Remuera project.

The upper-level deck framing is now well underway, while work continues on the roof framing as this impressive home starts to take shape. The structure is evolving into what will be a beautiful architectural home.

Introducing a New Project!

This stunning villa renovation and architectural extension is now well underway. Structural steel is in place, floor joists are installed, the strapping beams are complete, and a standout features—an inverted splayed hip has already taken shape.

The spectacular views across Rangitoto and the Waitematā won't be visible for much longer as the scaffold wrap goes up!
